A Dealer Is Selling A Ram 2500 For $21,000 Off And It’s Not A Fluke

It’s hard to think of a Stellantis brand that is doing particularly well right now. They’ve all got their issues, even Ram—which is seeing an awkward glut of trucks piling up at dealers right now.

The numbers on the Ram 2500 are a little awkward right now. As per CarEdge figures, there is a full 392 market days of supply currently sitting at dealerships across the nation. With 8,133 trucks currently on sale, versus only 934 sold in the last 45 days, it appears the broader pickup-buying populace has turned off Ram’s heavy-duty hauler.

As you might imagine, all that excess product sitting around isn’t exactly making dealers happy. The result is a bunch of trucks wearing Ram badges and heavier discounts than usual.

Let’s start by looking at the workaday Tradesman models. Franklin Ram in Tennessee has one example for $43,924, a full $10,221 under sticker. No surprise given it’s a 2024 model that has been listed for a full 518 days. Sam Leman Ram in Illinois has a similar 2024 truck for $15,000 under sticker, and you can find similar in California and Alabama besides.

There are similar examples in the better-equipped Laramie trim, too. There’s a 2024 Ram 2500 Laramie that’s about to celebrate its first birthday at Southern Ram in Virginia. It was originally listed with a roughly $6,000 discount, but that wasn’t enough. It’s now up for $54,646, a full $16,474 under MSRP. Meanwhile, you can get a black one with a Hemi V8 at DuPage CDJR in Illinois for over $14,000 off, or a 2025 model one in Missouri for almost the same money if that’s more your fancy.

Perhaps your tastes lie with the Power Wagon. If so, you can save $9,880 at Ram of Naperville in Illinois. Marion Ram in North Carolina and Bill Luke Ram in Arizona are offering deals in the same ballpark as well.

Even if you’re looking at the high-end Limited, you can save there as well. Jim Butler Centralia Ram has had a 2024 model for 214 days in Missouri, and it’s going for $76,972, or $18,163 under sticker. Meanwhile, Bricknell Ram has had one for 236 days in Florida, and they’re offering a 2024 model for $77,462 against an MSRP of $98,590. That’s a heavy discount of $21,128. You could pick yourself up a Nissan Versa while you’re at it!

Click through to the dealership websites to get more information on these vehicles, and you might find something interesting. In many cases, most of the cash on the hood is coming from dealers. It appears that it’s not head office at Stellantis handing down these huge five-figure discounts; it’s happening at the lots themselves.

It’s a shame for Ram, which has seen heavy-duty sales dropping off despite strong performance in the light-duty sector. In the recently released Q2 sales figures, Ram has sold 75,405 units across all its heavy-duty pickup lines in 2025 to date. That’s down 8% compared to the same period last year. It’s not a precipitous decline, but it’s indicative that perhaps the heavy-duty lines aren’t doing quite as well as the company might hope.

Traditionally, Ram and Jeep have been the reliable engines that have kept Stellantis and its predecessors going during the tough times. That’s still the case to some degree, but any wobbles won’t be appreciated given brands like Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and Chrysler aren’t exactly picking up the slack right now.

$16,000 off of WAY TOO MUCH FUCKING MONEY!

These would be great prices… for 2025 model year vehicles.

Given these are all 2024 models and we are now in 2025, these discounts aren’t all that great. The discounts barely represent the depreciation associated with being a year old.

These discounts should have happened near the end of 2024.

The fact that Stellantis is trying to unload 2024 models half way through 2025 speaks of gross mismanagement to me.

And they deserve to take a bath on these for being so greedy and stupid.

For these “year old” models to be a good deal, take the MSRPs and then put on a 20% discount to account for a year depreciation. And then add $10K off to move it out the door. .

So that means when I look at that 2024 Dodge Ram Tradesman that had a $54K MSRP discounted $44K, it’s still grossly overpriced. Applying 20% off for a years worth of depreciation gets the price down to $43K. THEN apply the $10,000 discount and we are down to $33K.

And at $33K, I would say it’s acceptable for a vehicle that has been sitting on the lot for at least a year.

Same story with all these other overpriced trucks that are still overpriced due to their age. They’re all STILL overpriced by at least $10K.

I think part of the problem for the 24s is that Dodge changed the transmission for 25. I hear it’s a massive upgrade, especially if you do towing.

I narrowed the cars.com search to RCLB trucks in the Tradesman trim (a “real” work truck) and found over 500 2024 models for sale. They start at $33k and there are a couple dozen you can buy for under $40k. If you’re buying a pickup for other people (your employees) to drive, that’s a heck of a deal. You can barely get into a Ford Maverick for that money!

I buried this in the replies below, but don’t forget the pricing of HD trucks is “enabled” by tax breaks in the majority of purchases. Even people who generally use them for personal transport (Y THO?) will sometimes set up an LLC for no reason other than to capitalize a lot of the expenses. When you provide tricks that create discounts, the MSRP will creep up.

Just look at college tuition and cheap student loans, they feed off of each other and nobody knows which one is the chicken and which is the egg.

I can’t imagine trying to drive a Ram 2500 in Miami. Wrong truck for the market.

Don’t forget the ranching community across 90% of FL (by area, not population). It used to be in the top 10 in cattle by head count, which has fallen a bit due to development, but it’s still pretty high for a non-Plains state. Most of FL is pretty great for pickup — straight and flat, with some long distances to cover.

Definitely makes more sense in the rest of the state. I’m in the business and to me, thats a truck that the Miami dealer should be dealer trading to one of the rural dealers for a Wrangler 392 or something like that, both end up with more of what they sell. Are the ranchers really driving into Miami to buy a truck?

TIL that I am *completely* out of touch when it comes to truck prices, as those all seem ridiculous, even with the discounts.

Wonder if there was/is any hail damage to those trucks based in the Midwest. Just about all my friends in St. Lous have had their houses, cars and nerves battered over the past year with seemingly continuous bad weather.

Hail damage is usually in a fairly narrow area. We have had hail here in the last few storms, but not large enough to cause damage. A few miles away suffered, though.

Can confirm. I’ve had BAD hail 3 times in the last 3 years at my house in KC. Our friends a mile away haven’t had any hail.

I don’t claim to follow HD pickup segment, but I don’t think this is necessarily another example of Stellantis flubs like some are commenting. Whenever I browse dealer sites for any of the domestic brands, it’s not unusual to see the more commercial-oriented pickups as a model year or even two behind, moreso than the LD trucks. Just seems to be the nature of the segment and buyer. Year-old cars or SUVs – be it Hornets, all the way up to Wagoneers at the same level of MSRPs – are a bigger issue and we’ve definitely seen plenty of those covered here too. Even when you consider CDJR has played a lot of What Year Is It Anyway, where the model year is made up and the calendar doesn’t matter.

Narrowing back down to CDJR, they had a combo of price increases and fewer incentives for a long time while also reducing model lines that actually sold (LX cars), so in theory this could be the mothership trying to course correct. Some of those dealer discounts certainly could have cash to dealers in there too.

(BTW the Brickell dealer link goes to Jim Butler, unless it’s fixed by the time I read and posted)

Honestly, there are great deals to be had on any of the big-3 trucks right now (especially 1/2 ton and above). If you are a cash buyer or have a good rate, it’s a great time to buy.

The deal gets better when you calculate inflation. Trucks, with these rebates, are cheaper than they were years ago.

Counter point: The interiors are pretty decent and if you are using it primarily for work you spend most of the time looking at the dash anyways.

I could live with it, if the dealer tints the windows before I leave the lot.

Reality bites. The pool of people who can spend 6 figures on a vehicle and see a pickup as aspirational is shrinking. Even if you think $98,000 is reasonable for a diesel truck that can tow a battleship and has every luxury option RAM could toss in there, you then have to sell it to someone who can easily afford a true luxury car while having plenty of money left over to pay someone else to haul their stuff.

some of this is because the new model just dropped and this past year has not been kind on the lending front. so a good deal of these truck have in fact sat around for a while. i felt I got a killer deal on one in January, just before tariff fever killed the discounting buzz for a bit.

I think if the 2500 is saddled with a diesel from last year then a good deal of people are saying nah and going for the 8 speed with an actual shift lever on the 2025 units. if you want a steal though, the bighorn to laramie gassers are pretty nice rides. Though I would be asking for a new battery and extended warranty.

Even with 21k off it is selling for 77k. No thanks.

If with a discount these trucks are way over priced.

I agree, but I’d also see if you can find anything else sold new, in this price range today, with these features (even before considering the capabilities of the hardware).

In other words, trucks are crazy overpriced, but now that EVERYTHING seems overpriced, the gap has shrunk quite a bit. The rest of the market just caught up. Plus, HD trucks have always been a little bloated, IMO, because of the tax breaks that most users leverage to purchase them — cheap money = inflation.

Stellantis can’t figure anything out…back in April I was in the market for a new van. I liked the Odyssey, my wife was insistent on a Pacifica. Honda offered a lower price than the comparable Chrysler dealers in my area. The dealers I all spoke to were insistent they couldn’t budge on the prices. Seriously?! What is going on in Auburn Hills?? They have the wrong product mix right now and wrong prices. SMH.

Honestly, a 2500 Limited for about the same price as a 1500 Limited (albeit a year old) is a pretty solid deal if you need it. It’s just a big-ass luxury car along the lines of what Mercedes was touting on the big Fords. And it’ll tow just about the fanciest fifth wheel camper you can throw at it.

Certainly the Air Ride and related tow features definitely make for a comfy ride whether loaded up or not. That is not the same on some other brands of similar capabilities.

But we were told all pickups need are a V8 to sell.

Clearly there’s more to Stellantis’ woes than just cylinder counts.

eh, a lot of these 2500’s are 6 cylinders. Diesel sixes to be clear. and the 6 speed trans was behind the pack a bit on competitiveness. Also if you are not driving 30 or more miles a day, then don’t try to do a diesel. the new regen systems and EGR stuff just gets gummed up and costs a bunch to fix.

more along the lines of they are now closer to the Ford Prices.

GM already followed them down the employee pricing advertised pricing in May, but you can only fake the real price for so long.

I’m just glad that Lewin found a reasonable RAM in Naperville.. or as its sometimes referred to as Naperthrill. That’s my old stomping grounds.
