More of this please! Not because gossip, but because seeing how the sausage is made is interesting, meat, rusk and casing alike

I hate exhaust leaks but not these ones. Loved every sentence of this article, what an entitlement to request something like that when they provided wrong information and you just run a publication to your real customers, the autopian community. This is a subscription worth it, not heated seats or things like that.

I… liked it?
My circle will tell you that like to preserve my right to indignation. Technically correct is the best correct, as they say.
That in mind, the “F… OFF” might have come differently from me. I would get them cornered logically and make them look stupid on their own.
Still, more please.

The correct response to “take this down!” is “Is that your official response? PS: wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect”

We didn’t take the story down because we don’t take orders from car companies.

Don’t ever change this.

This was both an awesome story (yes, more please!) and well played by The Autopian. Huge respect!

I’ll take more, please.

Certainly hear the engineer brain vs the artist brain in this story. And good on both of you for where you came down!

More please.
I think one difficult thing is we want journalists to be absolutely independent. However, the industry is too small, the overlaps too great, so absolute isolation isn’t realistic. There will be friendships, sponsorships, collaborations, beef… the full gamut. Inside stories helps credibility so we can see for ourselves how things do or don’t influence things.

Maybe a crazy idea: how about a rotating member ombudsman? Nothing super formal, but having someone in this space to review and report on the site would be something I’d love to read.

This is good Autopian, and you guys are excellent journalists. As someone who’s long had aspirations to enter the automotive journo game, this stuff is fascinating to me.

I’m interested in hearing this stuff, but I’ve worked in journalism (well, a journalism-adjacent publication), so it rings familiar. Don’t know if I’m in the majority.

I like it because I have no experience with it! A cool behind-the-scenes peak to a world very different from mine, and a good example of what’s involved in working with manufacturers but also trying to be honest about their issues.

I get bad dogged by someone else in my industry every day. Means I’m doing my job. The louder they yell the more I smile.

Yes Yes Yes to all of it. And the PR person is pissed off because you are faster to publish than their internal damage control.

The correct answer to “take your story down!” is what David said.

The correct answer to “do you want to hear more of this?” is Yes.

Yes, another vote for More! If we didn’t want to see behind the scenes, we would stay in the audience with the non-members and non-commenters.

Really just a lipstick & wig hand with a somewhat questionable accent sort of thing, it sounds like.

ALL automakers do, they just don’t talk about it publicly.
