Wow, you're reading this? Thanks! If you're into RC cars and I seem vaguely familiar, it's because I spent over 25 years writing and editing RC car news, reviews, and tech articles in print and online. What else, what else ... I have a degree in Film Studies (useless), most of a degree in Graphic Design (useful), and I'm married to a wonderful woman with horrible taste in men. Thanks to her, we have a terrific daughter who just earned her Journalism degree and is way, waaay more together that I was at her age. Or right now.

If it’s any consolation, I laughed out loud at thr rooftop-mounted Multimac. This was actually one of the more humorous TFTS lately. Good job!
Of all those images, the one of Mike Teavee is sure inciting violence.
Mike couldn’t wait to turn twelve and get a *real* gun, like his Dad promised.
those rejections for graphic violence piss me off so much and it’s not even my problem.
I kind of want to see random blurring and redactions in your photos now. Blur out the part of the Volvo that it didn’t like. (Was it that the name is too close to “vulva”?) A bar over Dick’s on that blimp. Some strategic blurs over parts of the budget Dalek that imply nudity, rather than violence.
“I felt like a tube of toothpaste that someone dropped onto the floor. You know, crestfallen.”
Gadamn it … OK, that deserves a *golf-clap*
I think the MSN server is just based in a pedestrian friendly city, and sees all cars as violent.
It also sees Torchisms for what they are, and realises that they have to limit society’s exposure to aggressive taillight behaviour.
Peter, random question, how is your last name pronounced? The “iei” is throwing me for a loop when my in-brain voiceover reads your name.
“VIE (the) IRA”
He says it like that, every time.
Not EVERY time
every. time.
It’s “Vee-era” like “the era of the vee.”
Thanks!
All these Rejection Details look like a bunch of unsolvable CAPTCHA tests…
Ha!
What is this “moderation service error” fucking pissing cum nonsense? Is it acknowledging that it makes constant errors? Do you actually contact them?
FWIW, Peter, I thought the roof-top car seats were hilarious! As a 70’s kid who used to ride in the back of my Dad’s pickup, standing up behind the cab and occasionally catching bugs in my teeth, I think the kids would love this and they’d be safer than I was. Don’t worry, Dad made me sit down whenever we got out onto the highway. #70’sSafety.
Years ago, somebody (I think a Canadian show, it I remember right) did a parody of the Baby on Board stickers. The premise was the stickers weren’t proof there was actually a baby on board, so they created a Baby on Bumper car seat to prove to other drivers they should be extra careful.
The video actually showed a baby in a seat hanging off the front of the car as it drove through city traffic, but my recollection is it was the same 2-3 second clip repeated multiple times during the voiceover, so it could have been a trick with a static vehicle and a moving camera to just make it look the car was moving, but at the time it sure looked like the car was driving through an intersection.
I want to say it was SCTV, but don’t quote me on that.
That almost sounds like something The Red Green Show or maybe This Hour Has 22 Minutes might have done.
It definitely wasn’t Red Green (love that show). It segued into a “commercial” for a product called Bugs Off Baby, for cleaning up the baby’s face after a stint in the car seat.
Hahahahaha
Hahahahaha
That Camry picture reminds me of when my son was a baby and I jokingly asked a bunch of cops about strapping his car seat to the trunk lid of our MGB so he could come with us on short trips. My attempted humor was not well received…
Mary Tyler Moore once called Dick Van Dyke, Penis Van Lesbian. Since the word “Van” is in there it’s vehicle related so fight me.
Pretty sure I saw Penis Van Lesbian opening for Skunk Anansie back in ‘94.
Rock on.
What the fuck even is MSN’s content moderation tool. I know you’ve shown us it’s stupidty countless times but still, it never ceases to amaze how bad it is at its job, and apparently zero incentive for them to improve it.
I imagine it has a setting for how sensitive it is, and MSN have decided they want to publish zero ‘bad’ articles, so they’ve set to be as sensitive as possible, causing loads of false positives.
Of course, they could back that up by having a human review the articles the AI flags, but that would cost money so of course they’re not going to do that.
(I kind of agree with the AI that unfiltered Torchtopian is probably a bit much for the average normie to come across unexpectedly 😉 MSN just wants the blandest of bland pap)
It’s the worst image recognition AI I have ever seen. I have a small model I can run on my home computer that does a better job of recognizing what’s in an image.
I have no idea what theirs is doing. It’s not even trained on anything.
David: Wants a Multimac for when Delmar starts meeting other kids.
Jason: Wants to get the 2CV running by the time Otto gets his driver’s license.
Reality: David will get the new MB running by the time Delmar gets his driver’s license.
Goofy and the V-engine seen straight on are an incomplete set, you also need a map of the city limits of Philadelphia.
Don’t feel bad I get rejected if I copy and paste from the original article and I don’t get the opportunity to question it.
My days of being certain AI will fail are definitely coming to a middle.
LOL I thought you were being blocked from posting content ON THIS SITE…like isn’t this your circus?
I’m a moderator on a large, non car-centric site.
At one point, the host escalated auto modding protocols. Mostly this was as you’d expect.
I could approve errors, issues are mostly spam.
But at one point for reasons still unclear, direct references to Putin’s war centering on key words, locked any comments, including mine.
Approval had zero effect. If I didn’t edit them including my attempts to explain the issue, they were locked permanently!
I had to specifically tell them what to avoid, while avoiding the trigger words that would block my explanations as well!
Very simple to bypass the filter once you knew what the idiocy was.
This has never happened with any other type of comment, and no one knows why it happened!
This came from the web hosting source somewhere.
I have never heard any explanation, and yes, Putin was one of the auto block words.
Maybe still in place now?
It thinks any hole is a James Bond intro? Any cylinder is the barrel of a firearm?
“…any hole is a James Bond intro…”
If this were true, Daniel Craig would have been my BF years ago.
MSN’s content-detecting AI is just so advanced it can imagine traumatic flashbacks from other images its seen while looking at random pictures of cars.
