UPDATE: We Just Updated The Site

1st Generation Fabia Had Three Bodywork Versions Including A Sedan
ADVERTISEMENT

As you might know, our site isn’t always the fastest to load. In order to correct this we’re updating the back-end of the site tonight. We just rolled out the first update and, eventually, it should start to load faster.

Are you having any issues? Please let us know. My guess is that it won’t immediately be faster to load as it’ll probably try to load everything again. Eventually, it should work faster. Again, please use the comment thread below to report any issues.

Please enjoy this photo of all three body styles of the original Skoda Fabia for your troubles. Thanks!

I hope you’re still checking this Matt.
Mobile initially worked fine after the update. Since ~19:00 EDT yesterday, the connection times out from mobile. Cleared cache & cookies, no change.
Firefox 131.0.3 running on Android 14
It resolved once on Chrome 129.0.xx eventually, but complains heartily about the site not working correctly due to 3rd party cookies. After that, the page does not reload.

Hello Matt! There is definitely an improvement with my fiber connection here outside of Chicago. Still some lag, but much much better. Thanks for working to improve things.

Connection speed here is “somewhat” better than dial up. Even so,initial load times for this site are slower than my worn out Cushman Truckster. However, my chair is much more comfy and has better brakes…

No changes yet for me other than having to log back in. Taking of which, is there a way to log in using a good old user name / password prompt that’s one and done rather that through an email that email confirmation every time?

I just logged in for the first time in about 3 weeks.
It seemed to be painfully slow, as I probably didn’t have anything cached.

I love how when you click on the notification bell an advert pops up over the pop up menu…

I got signed out, and when I tried to sign back in, the code sent to me did not work (even copy/paste said it was wrong). Luckily the link did work, otherwise I couldn’t comment about how I couldn’t log in.

maybe its because i use firefox, but should i get a random video popping up covering part of the masthead every time i click into an article? Granted, this was an issue pre-update too.

Seems to be working well enough. But once again, I beg of you, get rid of the Gravatar shit. This is the only website I’ve ever used where I have to sign up for another website in order to have a profile picture.

I assume it has something to due with monetization.

Notifications never seem to go away. Even if I tap on delete all. That bell keeps ringing….

Funny, every time my bell gets rung, it means somebody thinks I’m completely wrong again.

Notifications are very finicky. I frequently don’t get them at all, or they’ll come flooding in from the last couple weeks of activity.

I have the opposite issue, I read one then the rest vanish never to be seen again.

I would like to see the comments in chronological order, oldest to newest please!

At least the ability to choose how we want to see them. Not sure how they are sorted at the moment. Nor is that helped by not really having any idea how many comments on a page or why there is a new page for comments.

God yes, and don’t start me on the last page, so basically I start in the middle every time.

Oldest to newest sort good, but it should keep replies with the OP!

I keep getting pop-up ads for Matt’s live webcam.

Is that a membership thing or is everyone else getting that?

The WordPress admin bar is visible to logged-in users. I’d rather not detail anything in public comments, but someone at Jazel needs to fix that immediately.
