Have you heard? Toyota is revealing not one, but two new supercars tomorrow night in Japan. This is a pretty big deal, since the last supercar it built, the LFA, has gone down as one of the most legendary halo cars of the 21st century so far (mainly thanks to the unholy Yamaha-tuned exhaust note from its naturally aspirated V10).
While the new car won’t have as wild a powertrain, it’s set to be equally provocative, at least judging by the camouflaged versions we’ve seen up close. And while many halo cars are going full electric, Toyota’s sticking with combustion power—specifically a twin-turbo V8 mated to a rear-mounted dual-clutch transaxle (it still might be a hybrid, but whatever, it has a V8).
While most automakers send out a release with specs and five photos, Toyota is going above and beyond with a full live stream of the reveal, with chairman Akio Toyoda and chief brand officer Simon Humphries listed as speakers. This is the brand’s most important performance car in over a decade, so it wants to really make a splash.
Let’s All Watch Together!
Watching live streams of car reveals is fun, but watching them with friends is even more fun. So on Thursday, December 4 at 9 p.m. Eastern time (tomorrow night), we’re going to be hosting a virtual get-together on The Autopian’s Discord server. That’s right—we have a Discord! It’s not just for members, either; anyone who loves talking about cars (and virtually anything else) is welcome. Though if you do become a member, you get special access to the members’ only channel, and all the other goodies that come along with membership.

If you’re not familiar, Discord is an instant messaging platform where like-minded groups of people (like those who read and write for The Autopian) can come together to discuss, well, anything. In the case of our Discord, that means channels for new car news, project cars, car buying, car selling, trains, bikes, planes, pets, toys, and virtually everything in between. It’s an amazing community filled with smart, knowledgeable people who are always around to give helpful advice or just chat about whatever you’d like to talk about.
If you already use Discord, joining is as easy as following this invite link: https://discord.gg/TGt82pKQNd. If you’ve never used Discord in your life, it’s incredibly simple. Follow that same link—making an account takes like 30 seconds. I’m mostly a lurker, but every once in a while I’ll chime in on a discussion I find particularly passionate about. And I’m pretty much always online during the day, so if you want to reach out to me directly, I’ll usually find the time to reply.
My colleague Matt Hardigree and I (and maybe other members of the staff?) will be around to kick things off, giving you, the reader, the chance to chat with us live. You’ll also get to hear our live reactions to the car as it’s revealed, and you’ll be able to give us your thoughts. Truthfully, I really want to hear what you guys think of Toyota’s modern supercar. Auto writers like me tend to be jaded when it comes to this type of stuff, so it’s nice to hear the opinions of enthusiasts who don’t write about cars every day.
So please, join us tomorrow night. We’ll be around before and after the 9 p.m. reveal, so don’t feel you have to arrive super early or right on time. See you there.

That sounds fun. I’ll try to be there, I’m sure my wife will find that idea extremely dorky of me! Also, Car Spotting is the best channel on the Discord!
I’m actually kind of interested in this as this might be the car I’ll be saving up for.
