Griffin and I had just hit up Porsche Werks Reunion, which is the Porsche Club of America’s yearly gathering of the Zuffenhausen faithful during Monterey Car Week. If you’ve somehow missed it, The Autopian makes an annual trek up to the Monterey Bay area for the dozens of car shows that occur every year. I’m a big fan of Werks Reunion because it’s open to anyone and doesn’t require a high-dollar ticket. Also, it’s full of incredible Porsches. No surprise: We saw a bunch of Autopian readers there.
I was piloting our monster CrossCabriolet out of the event, attempting to sneak out quietly so as not to overshadow Roger Penske’s latest purchase nearby. Like most of my plans, this one didn’t work. We were just past Mr. Penske’s car when I heard someone yelling and, glancing over my shoulder, saw a cadre of the handsomest and wisest people at the event running towards me. I immediately clocked them as Autopian readers.

Also, one of them (defenstrator42) shouted out “We’re from the Discord!!!!” (The Autopian has the best car-forum there is: a Discord for car nerds!)

After talking with everyone, we tried to get some quick photos before the police made us move (we actually ran into another fan the next day, joking that he got caught in a traffic jam caused by our CrossCab at Werks). Thankfully, Marie Hawke grabbed a few, and Griffin got the photo at the top of the article.

I’ll have a bigger post on the Cross Cabriolet later, but it was a big hit at Monterey.

Also, look: A Richard Petty IROC Porsche 911! This one is racing in the new IROC vintage racing series, which I think is such a great idea.
Is That A Hermes Hat?
As you can see above, I made the heroic decision to wear my Houston Astros hat to Los Angeles. This made me quite popular in California.
One of my favorite interactions of the week was with a delightful lawyer from Orlando wearing a Pasha-inspired dress. I was at the Zenvo House waiting for pizza (thank you Zenvo for the dozen pizza slices) while David and Jason shot a reel. The lawyer’s first question was whether my Astros hat was an Hermes hat, given the “H” and the orange color. Given where I was, the expectation wasn’t entirely out of line.
We began to talk about the law, and she asked if I was a lawyer. I said I wasn’t, and then she asked if I was Jewish. I am not, so I had to disappoint her a third time.

Some of the fun of the weekend is going to the auctions, and the people-watching did not disappoint. One of the Gooding Auction employees looked like a fancier Jason Torchinsky.
Christian von Koenigsegg’s Car Gets Outshined By A Crosscab?
I’m not saying that’s what happened, but 11,500 likes and counting tells me that that’s what happened.
There’s more coming! But I figured I’d give you a quick dispatch from my plane back home.

It’s sad that perhaps some of your best content is hidden from those of us who choose not to be on Instagram. Maybe do screenshots and embed those in the pages?
You don’t have to be on Instagram to view the Instagram content — or any Instagram content, save for private accounts. It’s available to all.
Petty’s IROC car did not wear 43???? Sacriliage.
Some things are just not done.., Dale Sr is always #3. I see why sports teams retire uniform numbers – guess it’s harder over an entire sports entity.
MLB overall has only retired #42 (Robinson). I could legitimately argue for Clemente #21 as well.
“Is that Hermes hat?”
Looks at Nike logo
“No, but you’re pretty close!”
And in case you want proof the internet sucks now, just Google “Hermes” and see how far the educational entries are below the commercial ones. On my Google, it’s third. On my Bing, it’s not even on the first page.
Is our children learning?
I saw the Motorlux pictures with the classy Professor Torchinsky. The sport coat of this alleged doppelganger does not reach his knees like a child dressing up as an adult.
He is clearly a grown man and not Torch!
Nice to see a show with this much variety and how accessible and casual it can be.
Rumor* has it that Mr. Koenigsegg actually had his car quickly painted white, as it was previously purple with gold wheels. But he didn’t want anyone to think he was copying the MCC.
*I made this up. Maybe.
