The subject of fleet size has been a frequent topic at The Autopian. I promised to reduce my fleet, sold a couple of cars, and then imported two more. I’ve lost count of how many Jeeps David has now. But hey, at least Matt hasn’t fallen into our same trap!
I asked you about the cars you’d keep if you were forced to part ways with half of your fleet. NC Miata NA applied the Autopian math of autopain:
Applying the DT method of choosing to either get rid of my Miata or Civic, I would buy a Comanche.
Thomas wrote about how Jeep recalled cars it bricked from a botched over-the-air update. VanGuy:
Additional vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (est. 1,707).
Weird. From what I can find, Canada was established in 1,867.
The Scion iQ in my fleet bricked itself again, and it’s probably because of an aftermarket cruise control that belongs in the trash. Cheap Bastard:
You know you could just get her an Altima. Those have the most reliable, bulletproof cruise control in existence, a brick on the gas pedal.
“even I have to admit that Toyota built a better car than a Smart.”
In other words Toyota outSmarted Mercedes.

The Bishop gave us an excellent Pontiac Pthursday on the Sunbird Turbo, a car I didn’t even know existed. 5VZ-F’Ever and Ever, Amen:
Little known fact: this car had one of the earliest versions of automated launch control. Procedure:
1) point car at 90° of the intended direction of travel
2) let go of wheel
3) dump clutch at high RPM
4) wait
5) wait
6) flip Van Halen cassette to side B
6) BOOST KICKS IN
7) car torque steers itself to the correct direction and takes off!!!
Have a great day, everyone!

Aw hell, I was pondering if an aftermarket cruise control was even possible for my wife’s iQ. I guess I’ll be staying away from this idea.
Oh the year was 1778…
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now!
This is pretty brilliant:
In other words Toyota outSmarted Mercedes.
Nice one!
“6) flip Van Halen cassette to side B”
BWAHAHAHA! I lost it here.
Ooo, if the album is contemporary to the vehicle, that’s Hot For Teacher!
I don’t feel tardy.
That’s my favorite line in the song!
Class dismissed!
I brought my PENCILLLLL!!!
Gimme something to write on, man.
Definitely rocking that song on the way home from work today.
Here is a very rural 1990s anecdote: 4 of us were mud-bogging in my friend’s Suzuki Samurai at ~8,000 RPM, playing my Van Halen cassette in the tape deck. “Running with the Devil” was one of the songs we were listening to. The tape deck ate my tape and I got mad at my friend. I got back in my 1990 Mustang GT, and went home angry over the loss of my cherished property.
THE. WORST!
