I’m sorry! I’m so sorry for all the miserable things I’ve done. I’m deeply flawed – this isn’t news to anyone – but this is that day of the year when I really need to quit pretending it’s not true and just, you know, accept it. Yes, it’s Yom Kippur again, the Day of Atonement, and oy do I have some atoning to do.
That also means I’m not going to be on the site today; I’ll be fasting and trying to explain to people I’ve wronged how I see what I’ve done and am sorry about the damage it caused and will, really, really try not to do it again. Sure, they may not be swayed because this is an annual event, but I promise I’m trying.
Honestly, I don’t think I’ve done anything all that horrific, but it never hurts to really take a look and think about things. I know I’ve worked too much and not given as much time as I could to the fam, I know I’ve been short with people – verbally, I mean, the physical way I really can’t do anything about.
And for you, my wonderful Autopians, I should perhaps apologize for my pretty cavalier attitude towards copy editing and all the times I’ve had to rush through something, because, let’s be honest, you deserve better. Oh, and for you members, I should apologize for procrastinating about birthday drawings. I’m still so behind.

Should I apologize to my cofounders, David and Beau? I’ve definitely argued with David plenty. And Matt, our publisher, maybe I should apologize to him. I tend to bring up Martin Luther’s book, The Jews and Their Lies, when he mentions his Lutheran Church, and I do it just in the hopes of making him a little uncomfortable, which I find funny. But that’s not cool.
I should apologize to the automakers that have loaned me press cars that I have yet to get around to writing reviews of. Why do I procrastinate review writing so much! I have like six or so to catch up on. That’s ridiculous. Okay, starting this week, I’m going to try and write up some of these reviews! Ugh.
I’m not apologizing to Bugatti, though. Screw ’em. I stand by my take here:
Point is, I’m a flawed person, I realize it, and before hashem will write me into the Book of Life – the benefits of which I’m honestly pretty unclear about – I need to make right with the people I may have wronged. So, I’ll try.
And, even better, it’s a good reason to re-use this GIF I made like 20 years ago:

I hope you all have a fantastic day and enjoy the many wonderful stories on this site I’m so thankful for, and if you’re observing the holiday, too, I hope you have an easy and meaningful fast!

How many ophthalmologists does it take to change a light bulb?
1 or 2?
1 or 2?
2 or 3?
I’m so sorry…
Hay Jason,
Since this reads more like a religious blog instead of a car blog, I wan’t to ask you something.
Any word on the religions and their influence on the geopolitical conflicts in the world right now?
Feel free to not answer this question. I like your writing and if I knew you in person I might like you in person. But I have some questions regarding some major decisions made in the name of your people. Both recently and less recently.
And I have the feeling a lot of people of faith are not behind these decisions. But I hear none of them.
Why do I hear “Hey, I’m atoning here” in Dustin Hoffman’s voice?
Hmm. Well. I forgive you, I guess. Just don’t let it happen again!
So, I finally learn who was behind all my favorite winamp skins.
If you’d like to atone, maybe you could get the Autopian staff together and make a bid on this bus for Mercedes. It’s been updated with a Detroit Diesel and has a 4-speed manual.
It would make a good Christmas present, so you could take care of two holidays at the same time.
You have nothing to apologize for.
I procrastinate too. I procrastinate by coming to the Autopian instead of doing actual work (as is happening today).
Go enjoy your day Torch.
I’m not a religious person. But I can get on board with the whole atonement thing because I sure do fuck up an awful lot of things and should probably “atone”. So do a lot of people in the US, who should be thinking about some of the idiotic decisions they make, not to mention their choice of leadership.
If you could find a way to use Henry Ford’s “The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem” in a similar manner, it would be even more effective at making people uncomfortable. And appropriate, since this is a car site after all. For the double whammy, if you do this in a video, have Kanye West’s HH track playing.
I love your brand of crazy, Torch. Don’t change. Just be careful when trying to use a chainsaw on a battery. You need use of your hands to keep your crapcans going, and it’s a pleasure to see you use the Yugo or the Changli, or drive some random microcar few people have ever heard of.
Hey, he was being careful! He was wearing those purple dishwasher gloves and he did it while Otto was in school rather than having the kid take video of it!
That was more of a warm start.
I think everyone can benefit from some introspection now and again.
We’re all flawed, and we don’t always realize how our words and/or actions can affect others. It’s a good idea to level-set.
No religion is required for this, btw; everyone can participate, even without the structure of a framework. All that’s really required is that we look at ourselves honestly and try to see ourselves as others see us, and realize where we could have done better.
Me: “I’m sorry”
Wife: “For what?”
Me: “I don’t know”
LOL!
I’m sorry for all of it.
Now are you happy?
Is the Maico 500 just the most sorry looking car, or what is the connection? If any. Also totally OK if there isn’t one 🙂
Nah, it’s a total Champion.
I just like them.
Still – you mention a “cavalier attitude” without posting a Chevrolet Cavalier?
Preferably an early Z24 liftback coupe which I nominate as the Cavalier with the most attitude?
Car, maybe. But expand it to trucks and the Ford C-Series is right up there.
