I’ve had it. I’m done. This world is full of so much joy and wonder, and yet there are so many forces that seem to be dedicated to making it into some bland, soulless nightmare of avarice and mindless status-grubbing. We fight against it the best we can, but then sometimes we’re dealt such a blow that it’s hard to go on. I feel like such a blow was dealt today, a blow that makes me fear for our very own children, and what makes this blow so painful is the source: Little Tikes, makers of the legendary childhood automotive icon, the Cozy Coupe.
I’ve believed in the pure childhood joy of the Cozy Coupe for decades. It’s the car of childhood, it’s how you got around. When you’re four or five and have a busy playdate schedule and strict naptimes and a stack of coloring this high that’s not gonna color itself, the Cozy Coupe is how you got around to make everything happen. The Cozy Coupe is childhood.
And, sure, I’ve voiced my concerns when I’ve felt there were design missteps in the Cozy Coupe, like when they briefly moved the eyes out of the headlamps, but overall I’ve been a staunch supporter of this delightful little ketchup-and-mustard-colored little wheeled plastic vehicle. But now? Now Little Tikes has gone too far, and in the process has turned their back on a whole planet full of children. They call it the “Cloud Collection.” I call it an abomination, urinating in the face of everything good and right about childhood.

Here’s what Little Tikes sent us to promote this atrocity:
Little Tikes is giving the classic Cozy Coupe a clean, timeless white redesign as part of its new Cloud Collection, bringing the beloved childhood ride into the world of today’s design-conscious homes. And while the look may be refreshed, everything that matters most remains the same… the durability and quality Little Tikes is known for, proudly made in the USA, and the active, imaginative play that has been at the heart of the brand for nearly six decades.
The white Cozy Coupe is available for preorder today, September 9, ahead of the Cloud Collection’s Amazon launch on September 15.
First, and most importantly, fuck off, Little Tikes. “Bringing the beloved childhood ride into the world of today’s design-conscious homes?” You know what they mean by this, don’t you? This isn’t “design-conscious.” And the fuck do they mean by “today’s” design-conscious homes? No one in the past cared about how their homes looked? That’s utter horseshit. What Little Tikes is talking about is the miserable recent trend of beigification, where, for whatever insipid reasons, popular culture seems to be sucking the color out of everything, and there have even been studies showing this to be true. We see it happening in car colors, of course, but it’s everywhere. It’s like the world is on a mission to make every habitable space look like some stupid boring-ass AirBnB, where the color palette is limited to what you might see on a plate of fried food, with the occasional bit of drywall or bathtub caulk thrown in.
The very notion that Lil Tykes is making this bleached, color-desaturated shell of a Cozy Coupe to better fit in with the fiercely orchestrated bland home decor of boring people with zero notable design ideas, taste, or courage, is appalling. I mean, look at this shit:

What kid wants that? What kid is going to be excited about a room with all the color sucked out of it? The kind of kid that hopes for a pack of crayons like these, I imagine:

And “imagine” is what I have to do. Because no kid wants this. The reason this is such a miserable betrayal is because this Cozy Coupe is the first one designed for parents’ needs and wants over the kids. And even worse, these needs and wants are garbage. Boring, bland, beige basura.

If you’re a mom or dad who has held off from getting your kid something fun because it has too much color that won’t work in your carefully curated color-free, all-natural tones taupe nightmare of a home, then guess what? You’re a lousy parent. And your home is boring and stupid and your natural fiber beige clothes make you look like a dumpy peasant, you miserable sack of farina-colored shit.

Look at this image Little Tikes is using. What a fucking joke. Give that little girl some fucking colors to enjoy! Look at those triangular pennants on that shelf of stupid woven baskets. They’re as colorful as anything gets here, and the colors – beige, almost brown, nearly mint, and light beige – have colors like La Croix has “flavors.” It’s a barely hanging-on memory of colors, like a belch of flavor into seltzer water.

This is all miserable. Why are they doing this? These poor desaturated Cozy Coupes even have a sort of creepy, ghostly feeling, like those white-painted bicycles left at locations were people died. It feels funereal, like Victorian daguerreotype of a stillborn.
Little Tikes calls this a “clean, timeless white redesign,” but nothing could be further from the truth. This isn’t timeless; it’s a direct, trendy leaping upon of a current bandwagon of lazy, formless, conformist, joyless Instagram design trends. You know what actually is timeless? This:

If you’re a little kid reading this, and your selfish, social-media-obsessed, hyper-image conscious and tasteless parents saddle you with one of these alabaster nightmares, let me suggest a plan: add your own color to your Cozy Coupe. Do it any way you can: crayons, markers, paint, condiments, whatever it takes. But make that Cozy Coupe your own, and give it color, any colors you want! Don’t be subdued by the glum tyranny of beiges! Push back! You’re our only hope, because at this rate, if the Cozy Coupe has fallen to the Forces Of Desaturated Blandness, then what chance do we have.
Kids of the world, do what you love: color. We need you now more than ever.

Next year’s model will come with an AI chatbot.
and a paid app.
You joke, but I saw an ad for some sort of Lego AI learning program the other day.
Little Tikes: headquartered in the same Ohio city that believed that ice fishing leads to prostitution. There must be lead in the water. Ohio mayor: Ice shanties may lead to prostitution – YouTube
Well…to be fair to the mayor, If I was stuck in an ice shanty in Ohio and a young lady came a-knockin…
He may be right, but is that such a bad thing?
Bad Mom and the kid have more color than any of these products.
I do have to say the Cozy Heavy Duty actually looks cool, but needs more color.
Honestly agree to disagree, I see it as a blank canvas, cover it in stickers and such.
Or better yet, Cozy Coupe Wraps.
Gotta Teach the kids a skill Early I say!
Sharpies. Better than crayons on the wall and will definitely work on the walls too!
I would agree. IF their marketing was selling a blank canvas. But it isn’t. There is no hint that the kid should color this bad ride. It IS a blank canvas that the kid should paint and color 100%. But Little Tykes is not trying to sell it as a foundation for childhood art. They are clearly selling it so it matches those houses you see it in.
Agreed
sharpies are available in colors…ref peter maxx.
bumperstickers and rattle cans are also popular media.
Sharpies. Paint and stickers not so much, oh yeah Sharpies!
I don’t remember the plastic being smooth enough for stickers or decals
Yup! Taking a page out of the Slate play book. More revenue to be had with customizing! My kid’s bespoke version will be way cooler than your kid’s standard red/yellow plebian version.
The Autopian, the authoritative source for all the Cozy Coupe news. This reminded me of the V8 story so I Googled it and Google AI produced this:
Where the V8 Joke Comes From
The Satire Article: Automotive humor site The Autopian published a satirical piece joking that Little Tikes was “reintroducing a V8” to the classic red-and-yellow foot-powered car because of slowing EV demand. [1]
Is this the IKEA edition or the Robert Kennedy Jr edition? It’s hard to tell from here.
Pretty sure you’re going to have to spray it down with bronzer and stuff it into a tanning bed to make the RFKJR edition.
You’re right.
Be sure to check your measles vaccination status.
The RFK Jr edition includes a roof rack for all of your child’s whale carcass and roadkill needs
Perfect!
Depends.
Can the roof support a dead bear?
Winneys and Teddys.
#sadbeige
Beat me to it.
“Sad beige clothes, for sad, beige children.”
Pardon my language, but what in the ever loving shitfuck is this? What absolute cockwomble of a bellend signed off on this monstrosity?
I just pictured this in my head being drawn with the colors mentioned in the article…
Hey, just be glad they’re still, in 2026, making a coupe, and an everyday one at that.
It could be much worse…”the all new cozy cross will provide children everywhere with all the vehicular imaginative play they could want. Costco, travel sports, and angry accessories packages sold separately.”
That, uh, appears to be the CozyCross in the “bad mom” image. It’s ok, though because its Trail Rated. It’ll see more offroad action than most Jeeps.
Yeh shocked they didn’t incorporate a screen into the dash.
Isn’t it HDPE? That’s not going to be easy to paint, especially not for kids, and it’s not going to tolerate kid use well. People have gotten so damn boring.
As long as they keep it foot powered and don’t Tesla or LS swap it. But in all fairness, I got some good laughs out of this article.
Preach Torch! These companies just want us all to be converted into the neutral aliens from Futurama. Wouldn’t be surprised if this is a feeler to see how well they sell and I would bet going this bland white probably saves money vs the colored ones.
I share your outrage, but isn’t the overarching goal of our current government to restore a dominant white culture, which would make this politically correct? Plus, how many young children today have seen much beyond white cars and the white ones will probably be leased anyway.
Sir, this is the Autopian comment section, probably 95% of people here with kids have a non-white car.
Simultaneously batshit-unhinged, and 100% fucking correct at the same time.
Its why we love him!
At least they haven’t made a primer grey version to go with those infamous “millennial grey” interiors yet
I’m going to have my own rant embedded here. “Millennial Gray” is a conspiracy, a name generated by Gen X, hoping that as usual, everyone will forget about them and blame millennials. It should absolutely be Gen X gray, as when this trend was started and proliferated, no Millennials had yet managed to buy their own homes, lol.
I’m firmly a millennial, and my friends and I HATE, the lack of color in everything. Cars. Interior design. Everything in seasonal depression gray. My Gen X coworkers? Are 100% sold on the neutral life. Grayscale is their entire deal. Color is banned.
Joanna Gaines? Technically Gen X. We do NOT claim her. The interiors you see associated with this abortion of a Cozy Coupe? Adopted by the worst millennials that are copying their parents rotten love for HGTV.
/rant
As a Gen X’er I am apathetic to your rant.
As a millennial, I’m wildly waving my arms in the air, huffing loudly and… now I’m tired and would like a nap.
Meh, same here, I guess.
Meh.
That’s fine. GenX doesn’t give a damn what you think.
Well, HGTV *has* done to real estate what the WWE has done to wrestling and NASCAR to motorsport…
Really? The WWE and NASCAR are bland mono neutral colored organizations? I’d say the WWE was the inspiration for the rainbow color clothes and flamboyant outfits and NASCAR has more car colors than we ever had in the past.
As a fellow elder millenial I second this, everyone flipping houses with this shit are gen X and boomer realtors
You’re the one’s buying them. 🙂
It’s poorly flipped house with every surface covered in gray faux wood vinyl or camping I’m afraid.
Lol touche, but also we have no choice!
To be real though my wife and I bought our first house only a couple years ago after an extensive search bc we’re in a competitive market, and you had two options: all gray everything flipper with multi-color tile backsplashes and gaudy light fixtures, or lovable but worn older house with failing galvanized plumbing and knob & tube wiring. (Of course worse yet many flippers don’t even fix that big stuff)
The real crime with the boring gray flooring is that usually they installed over or ripped out old oak floors that they could’ve been refinished to look more high end than new luxury homes come with while also having a much longer service life than LVP.
Yeah, I was mostly being a smart-ass. I know there are a lot of factors that influence what you can buy and one of them is definitely HGTV and others that popularize grayscale/beige. The one redeeming thing is that a coat of paint isn’t too difficult.
We bought the house with the asbestos and the knob and tube.
That looks like a Department of War crayon box.
Only if all the “colors” have boy names.
Needs a potato color.
‘Peeled Spud’ all fixed now
Small mashed potatoes has a better ring to it.
‘Idaho Spud Guts’
“I want a car as boring and soulless as mom and dad’s” said no kid ever.
This reminds me of this past week. My kids loved my Dad’s car, a 2014 Civic Coupe. It was the coolest thing in the world to them (8 and 5). Two doors!?!?!?! Madness! In a world of nothing but SUVs, the Civic seemed like a freaking Lamborghini to them.
He just gave it to my brother and bought a Crosstrek. They are despondent, lol.
Not that the Crosstrek is particularly soulless, but to kids, this was like seeing Grandpa sell-out. It was not the reaction he was expecting, lol.
Hot take much?
(Ok, I don’t like it either. But I thought we were the site of “don’t yuck someone else’s yum?” What they need to do next is offer a paint booth or custom wrap kit for easy customization.)
sometimes it’s fun to yuck things, especially when they’re from a big company!
I think this is fairly a yuck to the sort of people who clearly “yuck” at the idea of a color invading their home. It’s more of a punching up thing than a punching down thing.
Also, imagine a world where this sort of thing is somehow justified by number, and every Cozy Coupe sold ends up being white and beige, you know, basically what happened to real cars? What if the marketers brainwash our children so that my son is walking up to me and my car yelling “Think of the resale value!!!!”
This is no one’s yum.
This is the automotive news I come here for
Same!
Can I get it in a matte grey wrap tho?
Fuck.
This.
Shit.
What in the beige mom?!
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
My wife needs to read this.
I e-mailed a link to my wife just now.
I can support the all white ones in one way, they’ll be a lot easier to paint them in other colors to make them more special.
And watch some state agency go after you for not having a license to operate an automobile paint shop or something
“Sir, your unlicensed automobile paint shop made of a… /checks notes and adjusts glasses/… cardboard box in your driveway goes against all residential codes…”
Ah yes. The classic HOA angle.
Carcinogens in the air
Destroying the ozone layer
Paint buffer.
Choose your own outrage adventure.
You’re making the whole comment out to be more serious than it is, but this would be painting a car-shaped plastic toy with spray cans. But, you know, they’ve already claimed covering caskets in printed vinyl wraps is the same thing as running an unlicensed funeral parlor and that opening a bar in a former barber shop and decorating it with barber memorabilia is the same as cutting hair without a license. And then there’s all that BS around African hair braiding services
Sorry. Didn’t mean to. 😀
Just connecting dots with how we all know government works now
Lol. Yep.
What woke City/State is this happening in?
That destroying the ozone layer is BS I haven’t had a decent tan in decades
Try QT, it tans any time, rain or shine
You from Michigan too?
That plastic won’t be easy to paint, though?
A box of red, blue, and green Sharpies will make the cozy coupe uniquely yours.
Cleaning, scuffing, cleaning again, and adhesion promoter, then paint
Time to teach our nieces and nephews the fine art of flame-priming plastic, applying a nice metal flake or two-tone, and airbrushing in some flames on the side. ‘Cause we’re the cool ones, even if Mom & Dad liked you more.
Pretty sure all of that has been made illegal
That only makes it more cool.
But the paint will flake off like a $99 Orel Schrieb special and probably cost more. You will probably have to get your HOAs approval on the color and the local liberal groups approval on the type of paint and how it is done
Tell us, how do you really feel?
