David Tracy Logic Is The Best Logic: COTD

Something I love about working for The Autopian is that all of my co-workers are absolute characters. Thomas and Matt know the most obscure pop culture references, Jason is just unhinged, Peter got me addicted to RC vehicles, Adrian is devastatingly sassy, and The Bishop has an incredible imagination. Then there’s David, and his absolutely incredible logic.

David bought a broken Jeep to replace his other two broken Jeeps. Eggsalad:

Someone please check my reading comprehension skills. What I read was:

“Tracy owns a Jeep that he can’t drive because it needs to be fixed, so he’s replacing it with another Jeep that he can’t drive because it needs to be… less fixed?”

Fourmotioneer made a joke about the Jeep’s broken steering:

Loose nut behind the wheel.

My Other Car is a Tetanus Shot:

Well at least you have a Jeep Grand Cherokee filled with parts from another Jeep Grand Cherokee to fix this Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Not sure how many Grand Cherokees one requires to make a Jeep Grand Cherokee of Theseus.

But I suppose you’ll find out, and I’m happy to go along for the ride.

R53forfun:

Respectfully, I don’t think “mint” means what you think it means.

*Jason*:

Well you have to remember this is David. “Rust free” means full perforation rust holes.

CR-V Oswald:

Jeep is now the most common brand on the Galpin Ford lot.

Ppnw:

So you swapped a completely insurmountable project for a different project, which looks only slightly less time consuming?

Bless you and the endless content you provide!

Canopysaurus:

CHEROKEE RESTORATION
(Apologies to Paul Revere and the Raiders)

[verse 1]

Gonna take the whole Cherokee nation,
To effect ol’ DT’s Jeep salvation
Spare no expense to extend its life
Long as it’s cleared with DT’s wife

[verse 2]

Fix what ails the steering column
Polish the paint till it looks young
Flip that control arm right around
Add four new tires to meet the ground

[chorus]

Cherokee people, Cherokee ride
So fun to fix, so fun to drive

[verse 3]

Next to come in this restoration,
A new antenna to pull in stations
Then hood release, dome light and grille
Headliner glue and a hole to fill

[chorus]

Cherokee people, Cherokee ride
So fun to fix, so fun to drive

[outro]

And maybe someday a swing away spare
Then DT’s ZJ will be there, will be there, will be there, will be there

Jason wrote a Cold Start about the upside-down “S” of the Space Shuttle Discovery, saying: “I saw a social media post about the orbiter Discovery that grabbed my attention and held it with the sort of fierce grip I imagine Miss Piggy employs on Kermit’s impossibly thin limbs when they’re alone.” StillNotATony:

Did y’all know that James Hetfield of Metallica officiated the wedding of Kermit and Ms Piggy?

Makes sense because he’s the pastor of Muppets.

Canopysaurus:

Wow, that’s quite a discovery.

Adam Rice:

In space, there is no “upside-down.”

CuppaJoe had the same idea:

In a zero gravity environment, the S can work in many directions.

Twobox Designgineer:

Letters were applied by a Jeep owner and typography enthusiast. Somewhere on the shuttle is a bumper sticker reading: “if the starboard “S” reads upside down, flip me over.”

Tim Cougar tells an awesome story:

When Discovery was delivered to the Smithsonian, they first did a flyover of the National Mall. I was lucky enough to be working at a building on the Mall at the time, with legitimate access to the roof. Best day on the job.

Have a great evening, everyone!

In my first engineering job, I sometimes was on site visits, and the one site visit I really regretted not being on after I heard about it was the trip to NASA. The people who went on it got a tour that included the ¿Vehicle Assembly Building (or whatever is the proper name) and not only saw the shuttle there, but also went all the way up from bottom to the top, looking down on the shuttle from the catwalks.

Ooh, it’s been a minute since I made the cut. Glad to see I haven’t lost my touch.
