“It had stuff that guys like, like the rims and the sleekness to the body, and then it had the Bluetooth and the navigation that Diana really wanted, and
it was a Sports Edition, so it felt really grounded to the ground …”
“Grounded to the ground?!”
So goes one of the most hilarious Toyota ads of all time, with Ryan and Diana Forte expressing warm feelings for their Toyota Camry – and being good sports about the goofily worded praise for their Sports Edition. Who among us doesn’t love sleekness to the body? And grounded to groundness, so important.

Many other Americans have also been experiencing warm feelings lately, but not because of anything Toyota is up to – it’s Mother Nature’s doing. It’s been dangerously hot in America lately, and our infrastructure hates the heat. Lewin wrote about a road that buckled into a perfect ramp configuration as temps soared in Missouri, launching a Toyota Corolla into the air Joey Chitwood style. Reader Pisco Sour was quick on the draw:
Narrator “The Toyota was not, in fact, grounded to the ground.”
TK-421:
Well it was about that time those Duke boys realized they were in a heap of trouble.
Ash78:
Now y’all are probably wondering right about now how this Corolla is gonna turn out. She’s may have a reputation for durability, but nobody expected this road to buckle even bigger than the one on my belt. Guess we’ll have to find out next week. ♪ Just some low-taxed towns ♪ never fixin’ the streets. Our infrastructure rots away while those Washington clowns, they all grift and f*ck around and find some new ways to cheat….♪♪
TheDrunkenWrench:
I wanna fly like an eagle,
down the street,
Fly like an eagle,
road has buckled from the heat
SNL-LOL Jr:
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
All I need is some big heat wave
And some poorly built roadway
Finally, we asked you what is the most iconic car accessory. I like what Hoonicus is thinking:
Well Torch being a style leader/trend setter, expect big growth in hood switches.

Have a great day, everyone!

Woo! All the musical nerds in today’s COTD!
“I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
I’m gonna free fall out into nothin’
Gonna leave this world for a while“
All the music nerds with their pumped-up licks, having fun, having fun, Weird Al is jealous.
Haha this musical nerd doesn’t know:
–who Wham are
–that Spinal Tap isn’t real
–who Jane’s Addiction are (until his wife dragged him to one of their shows, incidentally the day before the singer punched his bandmate on stage, so I might have attended their last completed performance, ever.)
–a single Tailor Swift song
–who Nicole Scherzinger is besides her connection to Lewis Hamilton
–sees a Broadway musical every 27 years… and my office is a few blocks from Times Square
