There is an old and grim saying that “snitches get stitches.” Basically, if you tattle on someone, there is likely to be physical consequences. But what if you snitch on a website of people who stitch for a living? Uh oh.
Brian wrote a story detailing the weird world of cheap Etsy Carfaxes. He felt bad for publishing that because Etsy took down the listings. You readers delivered great comments. Tim R:
Brian, snitches get stitches. And if anyone knows stitches it’s the Etsy folks so watch out.
Ash78:
Brian ’bout to get EMBROIDERED!
DialMforMiata:
I love the stupid AI slop “report” in the last image. I’ve always wanted to know about my car’s “Acidiona Love” and “Resone” history.
Twobox Designgineer:
Beware those Trcvious Owners!
Cheap Bastard makes a serious and good point:
CarFax erroneously reported my stepdad’s car being in a major crash. The car had never been in a crash of any kind, nor had it ever even been in the city where the crash had happened. My stepdad contacted the police department and obtained both a police report and a letter from the department showing the actual vehicle involved was not his and that it had a different VIN.
Despite this CarFax refused to correct their mistake. Thanks to that report the car became unsellable except as a salvage and my stepdad ended up taking a big hit to get rid of it.
Fuck CarFax.

Brian also wrote about how BMW invented a BMW logo-shaped bolt, which is amazing. Dan Parker:
BMW patents a novel way to screw its customers.

Brian wrote about how Nissan made wireless charging that doesn’t suck. Spikersaurusrex:
Here I was thinking this would be an explainer on how magnets work.
Finally, you have to hand it to our resident V10 nut. Matt ended a Morning Dump by asking about the best cars from Chrysler. V10omous:
What’s the best car from the following Chrysler eras:
– Iacocca – Viper Gen 1
– DaimlerChrysler – Viper Gen 2/3
– Cerberus/Nardelli – Viper Gen 4
– FCA – Viper Gen 5
– Stellantis – ……….

I wonder if a strongly worded letter from a lawyer would be worth it to get Carfax to pay attention and actually do something. Any lawyers here able to comment on if you could successfully sue Carfax for factually misrepresenting your vehicle. Seems kinda like tortious interference to this layman.
These COTD’s should be their own recap newsletter, just fleshed out ever so little bit more. Great bit of humor to scroll through and have a laugh while having my morning coffee. Cheers, all!
An article about comments on an article? We just need an article about this article and we will have articleception. Either way, it’s a sad day when people crackdown on loopholes.
I think ‘Comment of the day’ is one of the better things The Autopian has carried over from the old site. Often, comment sections are miserable places, full of bile and hatred, but I think highlighting ‘good’ comments does help improve the comment sections here.
I see what you’re doing here — trying to get people to reply to your comment about the article about comments on an article. But it’s not going to work!!
“Beware those Trcvious Owners!”
There was an AI slop photo of “Old Timey Las Vegas” that showed up on some social feed of mine. All the casino signs were these same consonant-heavy strings of letters.
Its top comment: “Ah, back when the Welsh mob ran Vegas…”
I missed that CarFax story but I can believe it. It’s common with large data aggregators to screw over people since they…. can.
Wait there are 5 generations of Viper? Dang.
If you are feeling very rich and are prepared to sign a very legally binding contract that means I never have to own the thing again and have cash or gold bars, (yes this is the boomerang car, it keeps coming back) I will introduce you to the 6th generation. Not really a Viper, more a Bristol Fighter, a very refined take on an idea.
It’s a Viper with less mass and less aerodynamic drag. And prettier too. I don’t have the requisite cash or gold bars though…
Haha yes I’m afraid I’m lacking in all of the above!
I think I commented in that same thread that most average people (including general enthusiasts) would have guessed two generations. When I see them on the street, it’s either the “OG Viper” or everything else is the “Second gen Viper” usually with some random letters after it 🙂
Yeah I thought 3 absolute max, haha
Lol, I read it as, “The Brothers Grimm saying, “Snitches get stiches,” which is a very contemporary and edgy take on the fairy tale.
If you read the original Grimm’s tales, they’re much more edgy and violent than you might expect. Like “Cinderella’s step-sisters cut off their toes to fit into a glass slipper” and “father cuts off his daughter’s hands for washing them too often” and “stepmom kills a baby and feeds it to the father” edgy.
Remember, the original fairy tales’ purpose was to terrify kids so that they would obey their parents (and also want to avoid being a stepchild, I guess?).
<shudder>
Struwwelpeter . . . very, very dark.
Grim, although not Grimm, per se. but let’s be honest- nobody likes a child who’s intentionally slovenly. 😀
I found that out as a new father when I bought the original Grimm tales for bedtime stories. Never really used it that way….
These days, nobody would dare take on the GOAT. His reputation precedes him. And speaking of fairy tales, if a random BBW comes knocking at the door, just keep it locked and say “I swiped right!” and then be sure you delete Tinder. Don’t give into any threats about blowing prowess.
I honestly just saw the words on the picture (“F*ckin magnets…”) before clicking on the article. I completely missed the actual headline. 🙂
That’s ok. We don’t kink shame around here.
You can’t help what you’re attracted to…
