When An Intoxicated Person Somehow Makes Better Decisions Than A Sober Person: COTD

People sometimes do silly stuff when they’re under the influence of medications or alcohol. Get some folks on anesthesia or drunk, and they’ll make a big ticket purchase that they might not remember in the morning. Somehow, I make drunk-like decisions when completely sober! Oh no.

I wrote about how my wife tried to buy a 2011 Hyundai Genesis while under anesthesia. One of you took note that Sheryl somehow makes better decisions than I, even when her brain is working at like half power. StillNotATony:

Sheryl, stoned out of her mind, buys a completely fine, reasonably priced sedan to replace her car that may be costing her business and is causing conflict.

Mercedes, while stone sober, regularly buys vehicles that require special licenses to operate and/or require storage lots to park them.

Look, just put her in charge of everything, okay Mercedes? You can still do crazy stuff, but let Sheryl make the major decisions.

I cannot argue with this logic! My wife already makes some big decisions since I’m more of a risk-taker than she is.

Younork found the perfect Prelude buyer:

Now that you mention it, Sheryl might be one of three people the new Prelude is designed for. A $40k car doesn’t seem to be what you’re shopping for, but between the two of you, one comfortable, efficient, RELIABLE, car would make sense. Plus It seems to fit that perfect niche between fancy enough to get people off your back, pedestrian enough to be cheap to maintain and not be too flashy, plus sporty enough to make Illinois roads somewhat interesting, while being comfortable enough to manage Chicago traffic.

Also, I’m just shocked at the judgement directed at the little car. “Performative poverty” is a wild accusation for someone who wants to drive a city car in America’s 3rd largest city.

Meanwhile, Thomas wrote about a trio of EVs that failed to meet reserve on Cars & Bids. I’ve always been confused about people selling basically new cars on Cars & Bids, and I guess I’m not alone. Alexander Moore:

Why are we selling new-ish EVs on C&B? Just take it to the local dealer and trade it in, it’s not like there’s a shortage of Mach-Es, Lucids, or Rivians. Anyone who wants one can just go and buy one, and if you’re shopping used you want a discount, not the C&B tax.

Ford

Finally, Jason asked some questions about some neat Ford Galaxie taillights. Logan makes an interesting observation:

With domestic cars in particular, and especially in the yearly restyling years, I feel that it was considered more important that lower trims *look* cheaper rather than actually saving any money building them.

Have a great evening, everyone!
