Bentley May Be The First Automaker To Have A Special Edition Based On An Astronomer

If you’re like most people, you’re currently in the market for a brand-new Bentley, but have been holding out on pulling the trigger because there are no options available that are directly based on famous astronomers. I’m sorry, is it too much to ask for a premium luxury car inspired by the wisdom of Carl Sagan or the folksy communication of Neil DeGrasse Tyson or the vast wonderment of Stephen Hawking? Or perhaps the mathematical intuition of Johannes Kepler or the insight of Vera Rubin? Is that too much to ask, dammit?

Well, calm down, because your pals at Bentley Poland have you covered, as usual. Instead of going to your Bentley dealership and acting a damn fool because there’s no Edwin Hubble or Percival Lowell edition cars, you can just settle down, drop at least somewhere around $400,000 or $500,000, and grab one of three “Nicolaus Copernicus Collection” Bentley Continental GT S and GTC S cars that have been built by Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke division.

See? The market is looking out for consumers like yourself!

Here’s how Bentley Poland describes the three-car collection:

Connecting all three vehicles is the “Copernicus Diagram”, an eight-piece luminary design motif, consisting of the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn Uranus and Neptune, which is reflected in various areas of the Grand Touring models: the orbital motif can be found across the centre console and front and rear quilting panels as well as the welcome lamps and tonneau cover.

The Nicolaus Copernicus Collection combines one consistent design theme around the heliocentric astronomical system, which is reflected in three individual masterpieces, created around the celestial bodies of the sun, earth and moon. Carefully selected exterior colours, veneers and interior hides tastefully reflect each character of the three stars…

The press release goes on to describe the three “stars,” only one of which is actually a star at all: the sun. The other two cars are based on the moon, which is known as a parking area for three lunar rovers, and Earth, the only place in the known universe with both multiple Dave & Buster’s locations and a viable velvet-producing industry.

The three cars all have unique colorways that set them apart and are related to the three celestial bodies – not “stars” – that they’re inspired by:

The ‘Sun’ car is a Continental GTC S in Manuka Orange, with a Gravity Grey interior secondary hide and Orange main hide elements. Copper Stone veneer inlays on the dashboard and the door waistrails combine with orange stitching and carpet binding to reflect the centre point of our solar system.

Being based on the coupe Continental GT S, the second limited edition model – ‘Earth’ – comes with a bespoke Nebula Blue exterior colour as well as blue interior details: Imperial Blue functions as secondary hide paired with Aegean Blue as the main hide, wrapping around the dashboard as well as the seat side bolsters and headrests. Galaxy Stone veneer in combination with the chrome specification and contrast seat piping in silver create further highlights within the interior. A satin painted centre console in Imperial Blue concludes the consistent colour scheme of the blue planet.

Named ‘Moon’, the third vehicle of the edition, again a Continental GT S Coupe, is painted in bespoke Moonstruck silver to reflect the surface of the earth satellite’s surface colour. The interior is covered in dark tone Beluga with light colour Ice leather highlighting the seats outer elements and headrests as well as the centre console, dashboard leather and door inlay stripes.

The cars also pay tribute to Nicholas Copernicus’ revelation of the heliocentric nature of the solar system by reproducing this famous diagram:

If all of that isn’t enough for you, these car not only have Bentley’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain with a system output of 671 bhp, but they also include custom smells and a playlist:

Each collector’s edition vehicle comes with bespoke treadplates, an individual fragrance, and key box. Pocket squares and scarves inspired by Copernicus Collection round off the exclusive edition. A special music playlist available on Spotify underlines the unique luxury experience.

An individual fragrance! What does it smell like? Space? The Sun? What a learned man living in Warmia, Poland would have smelled like around 1530 or so?

I hope Bentley doesn’t stop here with their old astronomer-inspired cars. Just think how fantastic a Tycho Brahe-inspired Bentley could be!

Just like its namesake, it could have a golden nose! Only one that you choose to have, instead of having to wear it because you lost a duel with your cousin about math.
