Ford’s Ridiculous F-150 Cowboy Belt Buckle Has Been Sold Out For Weeks, Here’s How You Can Still Get One

A month ago, I wrote about how Ford partnered up with an actual cowboy to make what’s quite possibly the coolest and most silly truck accessory. To celebrate 50 years of the Ford F-150, Ford and A Cut Above Buckles created the Truckle, a big ol’ custom-made belt buckle that shows an incredibly well-detailed vintage F-150. While the buckle itself is a huge fashion statement, it’s more than just stylish: it also holds your proximity key in a little compartment so that you don’t randomly lose your fob on the side of a highway in Maryland. Ford fans have scooped these buckles up so much that they’ve been sold out for weeks. But if you want one, I know of one last chance for you to buy one before they’re all gone.

Amazingly, I’ve already seen a Truckle in the wild. During the Raptor Rally last month, a woman hopped out of her F-150 Raptor in a whole western getup, featuring a cowgirl hat, boots, and all. Attached to her distressed jean shorts was a belt with none other than the huge Truckle. I thought the Truckle was even more impressive in real life than it was in Ford’s press photos. It really is a huge hunk of metal made by the hands of someone who is skilled in their craft.

Seeing that lady convinced me to pull the trigger. I don’t own a single Ford product, and I don’t even have a car that has a proximity key. Shoot, I’m usually wearing dresses, so I wouldn’t even have a pair of pants to attach the Truckle to. However, I do like trucks, and I do wear lots of dress belts. I also have a handful of western-style outfits. I could make a Truckle rock so hard with one of my dresses, who cares if it’s $200.

Unfortunately for me, I quickly found out that while the Truckle had been out for only days, they were already sold out. As it turned out, Ford fans have gone absolutely nuts for the Truckle. If you’re wondering what the hubbub is about, please refer to my original story:

Ford and a cowboy were clearly thinking of us forgetful folks with its latest accessory, the “Truckle.” Technically, this accessory was made to celebrate 50 years of F-150 trucks. However, Ford is also pitching it as the trick solution to make sure you never lose your key again. That’s right, Ford has a big ol’ belt buckle to keep your fob safe and sound, yee haw! Somehow, it gets even better from here.

The Truckle is a pretty elaborate piece that’s handcrafted from German silver and jeweler’s bronze with a hand-engraved Ford F-150 featured dead center on the front. On the backside of the buckle is a holder sized perfectly for a Ford fob. Sure, Ford is really advertising this for F-150 owners, but there’s nothing really stopping any modern Ford owner from using this belt buckle.

According to Ford, it partnered up with designer Andy Andrews to make the buckle. Andrews owns A Cut Above Buckles, a Utah-based maker of custom belt buckles. Andrews describes himself as: “A real cowboy, he was once a member of the PRCA as a bull rider. He has been in the western fashion industry since the early ’80s and has always had an eye for what is in style and for starting new trends.”

The Truckle has a hidden holder for any Ford fob from 2018 to today. The idea is that you could get into your truck, start it, and lock it without ever touching your fob.

I’m unironically in love with how the buckle looks. Unfortunately, buying one has been hard. When the news first broke about the Truckle, Ford said that the buckle was a limited-edition accessory, but didn’t say how many would be made. Since then, Ford quietly dropped new runs of Truckles, and unless you were paying attention right when they dropped, they sold out before you had a chance to buy one.

I expected that, as with Hot Wheels, maybe a bunch of resellers were picking up the Truckle. Yet, I was surprised to find no Truckles for sale in the reseller market. It looks like they’re all going to loyal truck fans!

Last night, I stumbled upon a Ford page that explains how to get a Truckle before they’re gone:

The limited run belt buckle key fob locker quickly sold out of available inventory twice in two weeks. To spread out the remaining inventory in a fair and consistent manner, A Cut Above Buckles and Ford will drop 50 new Truckles every Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET through Nov. 25.

I barely managed to buy one this morning, as the Truckle was sold out again in mere minutes. I didn’t even have time to write this! Unless Ford manages to find more stock, it looks like your last chance to get a Truckle will be next Tuesday, the 25th. Be at the website (click here) exactly on time, too, because they sell out darn near instantly.

Admittedly, I cannot wait to try the buckle on. I don’t even own a Ford, and yet, I bought a $200 buckle with an old Ford on it. The last time I even bought any automaker’s merchandise was all the way back when Smart USA was still around. So, congratulations, Ford, you got my money. Maybe I won’t be the only one at the Autopian with a Truckle.

The CR-V was released in Japan in 1995, making this the 30th anniversary… I wonder if I can get a… Huckle? Cruckle? or is it SUV+Buckle… a Suckle?

They went with “Truckle” because to combine “Buckle” and “Fob” would have you wearing a…

“Fuckle.”

Have we considered that Smart USA doesn’t exist because they don’t offer a belt buckle?

Pretty cool, but give it two weeks and half of the owners will have an aftermarket one that says DOOD.

You can pop your Smart’s Key in there and just put the cowboy hat in the backseat. Maybe Smart will start making Smuckles for you to purchase as well!

It still sounds like a late-night ebay fever-dream purchase.
