FYI @Matt, one of the screenshots appears to have revealed the BIshop’s secret identity (or is this more of an open secret?)
For me, Spectreman was the best thing on TV. Afternoon show in Japanese with subtitles, giant silver robot with kung fu moves.
A-Team, Incredible Hulk, helicopter shows (Blue Thunder and… something else?), Knight Rider, that show where the guy had animal powers. Lotsa must-see TV back then.
OK, The Man From Atlantis. I was like six years old when that came out. I haven’t thought about it since. So what’s the significance of showing the lunchbox with that on it?
Why didn’t you guys have Griffin write a post live while he was coming down from the drugs?
I’m old enough to get 2 of the three references in the header…
The matter-of-factness and deadpan description of the quality of his highness got me good, bahaha
Okay, but why is there a man suggestively holding a cucumber?
Try holding one NOT suggestively.

That’s probably to represent the urologist references. I think it’s from one of those Peyronie’s disease commercials. (And now my Google ads are going to be all messed up by my trying to figure out how to spell it correctly.)
Not Googling that…
Um, yeah. Good idea.
It’s not kink shaming, it’s kink re-shaping.
lmaoo, what was up with those commercials, it was like everyone suddenly had that as much as mesothelioma
On that note, have a great weekend!
Here’s wishing Griffin a speedy recovery! Having wisdom teeth yanked/hacked out is no fun, had to have it done myself back in the day.
I suspect Jason doesn’t need any outside chemical enhancements…
had all four pulled at once and i’m fighting for my life. cheers!
Enjoy your soup!
Yeah, but was your appointment at…2:30? Cuz your tooth “hurty”
Seriously, wishing you a speedy recovery (like a Corvette!)
Do they give you real meds anymore? I had mine out over 20 years ago and got the real deal and more than I needed. For gum grafts a couple years ago, they were, like, “eh, take some NSAIDs, you’ll be fine.” I read an article where some celebrity said grafts were worse pain than having her kids. My sister joked that she probably had epidurals.
For the wisdom teeth, I really disliked the syringe water thing to dislodge sewage from the vacated property in your jaws. You definitely want to make sure you use water as close to body temperature as possible.
Can confirm gum grafts suck. Hemmoroid surgery is 10 times worse, also can confirm.
For me, the procedure was more unpleasant than anything else. I might not have felt the pain, but I could still feel what was going on, which was kind of disturbing. The most painful part was as the wound was healing for a few days before the stitches were removed, particularly for the large graft, but my average migraines are worse. Haven’t had hemorrhoids, thankfully, or kidney stones, which I’ve heard are really bad.
Hope you don’t get frozen shoulder(s). I’ve had a full-mouth of teeth pulled and replaced with implants, and a fractured back, and my damn shoulders are the biggest wear-you-down constant pain I’ve ever had.
I had all four wisdom teeth plus SIX more teeth pulled in preparation for braces when I was 16. They put me under for the surgery, and then ALL the good drugs after. I was pretty out of it for about a week. The fun bit was they were very badly impacted and had to be chiseled out, so I had bone and tooth splinters coming through my gums for a while. That was great… I have enormous teeth and a relatively small jaw, so they had to make room to get my remaining chompers where they belonged. Two years of regular sadistic torture.
Very much agree with warming up the rinsing water – especially as Maine pretty much has ice water on tap. Makes for an, er, bracing bidet experience too.
Mine had to be chiseled out, too, using tools that looked like stuff I had in my own tool box. Didn’t get splinters, but the doctor said it might be a more painful recovery than if they were removable in one piece. He didn’t say why, but I assume it aggravated the nerves more. Just the wisdom teeth needed to be removed, though. I had one removed, then the three because of insurance BS. First time was Percocet, second was some kind of oxy. I stopped taking them as soon as I figured I could suffer through the day without them. Ended up getting drunk (a rare event) with a roommate and, after running low on things to shoot off the top of the refrigerator with a bb gun, I put an old pill up there. Hit it with the first shot from about 40 ft, and it exploded in a small puff of dust. I had to time the circular motion of my arm, which was about as steady as I could hold it. My roommate talked about me being a sniper for a little while after that.
I had braces and head gear. The HG was horrible and I quickly stopped wearing it, so what I did instead was, an hour or so before having to leave for appointments, I’d instal it and push on it with my hands with some force on and off until I had to leave. It was a little painful, but not too bad and the orthodontist would marvel at my progress and how I must be really diligent about wearing it. Later, my wisdom teeth pushed my teeth back together, so the money and awkward high school braces make-outs were for nothing.
My bidet heats the water. I’m not much of a luxury person, but I have to say that I love the fancy toilet.
Thankfully, I never had to have headgear, just those awful elastic bands between top and bottom teeth. Those were fun when they broke in my mouth. And the other fun was my molars are so gigantic that my orthodonist had trouble finding bands big enough to go around them, so he initially tried gluing the anchors on like they do with front teeth. That was fun when one came lose and the wire cut the hell out of my cheek. He custom ordered bands after that.
Results are pretty good over all 40 years on. My upper teeth are about perfect, my lowers have moved around a little and are not as straight as they once were. I was not diligent about wearing my retainers after I got the braces off with probably caused some of that, I had had it with having things in my mouth.
That week or so of drugs after the surgery seriously put me off any interest in recreational chemicals, and even doing much drinking. I do NOT like that feeling of not being sharp and in focus/control.
Thankfully, that and tonsils and adenoids when I was 5 are the only times I have had surgery. Probably should not have typed that out loud… I was in the hospital for a few days for a bad concussion and monitoring after a bad bike crash the same year I got my braces though.
I also don’t like the feeling of drugs and I was never a big drinker. I prefer to be ready in case there’s a call to action. I liked that I didn’t feel the pain, but stopped them as soon as I figured I could handle it.
Your story sounds like mine, my top teeth are still good but my bottoms have shifted badly. They glued in a wire retainer on the bottom that always bent and I flat out demanded be removed. My top retainer broke when I was in college. Maybe Invisalign if I feel froggy.
I had 6 baby teeth pulled at 13 (they never fell out) plus another 4-6 permanents pulled before braces were put on (I have a small jaw). When my wisdoms were pulled at 20 I was immune to the pain. I had mine pulled in the morning (on Spring break), then drove to pick up my little brother from school that afternoon. No painkillers stronger than Advil.
You are a tougher sort than I. I am spleeny, hate being in pain so give me the good drugs. But I also hate the out of it feeling so no interest in doing that “for fun”.
I had a bone infection in my lower jaw that started almost exactly a year ago and had to get 5 of my lower molars removed, the bone hollowed out and a graft installed then replaced with implants. (Will finally get to use my lower teeth again next week but $45K poorer) Most powerful thing prescribed was 800mg tylenol effectively. I never even bothered taking any painkillers as it was no big deal at any point, but no solid food for 2 weeks was a huge deal… In contrast in 2017 I had to get an implant after cracking one of these same molars in half during a biking wreck and they gave me roughly a month’s worth of vicodin and I truly needed it for about 2 days. I think things have gotten a lot better in a very short amount of time when it comes to this type of work, but unfortunately it hasn’t gotten any cheaper.
NSAIDs really do more than we usually credit them and I just took OTC ones for the gum grafts. I think it’s because they make pain tolerable rather than eliminating it that they don’t get the credit. Personally, I’d rather suffer for a week than be in a fog of drugs and risk dependency. As long as I can function, I can tolerate it. I almost didn’t bother with the meds when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, but when the shot started to wear off, it was this overwhelming nerve pain that was the whole side of my head and neck, so I ran down to get the prescription filled before they closed as I didn’t think I’d be able to even sleep like that.
Damn, I thought gum grafts were expensive!
Eating nothing but ice cream, pudding, and mashed potatoes sounds like fun until you do it for a day, which is about how long it took me to start craving something with some substance. I’ve only ever had to do it for a couple of days, I’m not sure how I would survive two weeks.
Oh man, I went through that about 25 years ago. Did they at least put you under for it?
I was fully under in ’98 or so, yes.
Ouch. Best wishes. I had just the jaw-based pair yanked long ago and it was no joke.
That said, I suspect you missed out on a rare opportunity. Pretty sure best Afeela coverage would be pharmacologically assisted Afeela coverage. The ads have me convinced that nothing about Afeela is supposed to make sense. At least you avoided the potential awkwardness of unexplained semipublic weeping.
All at once is not good. Had to do it myself but good meds and a good dentist I had no pain
I did too in 2001. Easier that way. Glad weed is now legal, it’s way better than the opiates they give you for the pain. Good luck.
Well, I had mine out about 25 years ago. I took exactly one pain pill, and the next day, I made and ate enchiladas.
Let’s hope your experience is like mine!
It’s a job that either goes without a hitch, or is a shit show. Mine went flawlessly at 20. My daughter had issues for weeks with her’s.
Heal quickly and best luck
So they make ice packs that strap to your lower back, knees, arms, etc. I cannot recommend them enough for perfectly wrapping around you lower jaw to numb the pain.
Fair warning, you will look like a super villain but it’s worth it
Speedy recovery
When I was young and stupid, I went to the dentist (not an oral surgeon, mistake (1) and had a wisdom tooth extracted. Back then they didn’t require someone to drive me home (2). And, I arrived at the dentist, had the extraction, and rode home on a Honda CT90 Trail bike (3). I did have to stop at one point to let the dizzyness dissipate.
I was in pain and went to a dentist because I couldn’t bear the three week wait for an oral surgeon. The guy literally had his foot on my chin at one point while pulling one out.
I was in more pain than the tooth had caused me for three weeks. He also gave me no pain meds. I begged anyone I knew for any leftover meds.
Just please keep Jason levelled on whatever he is on now…
“Level” is a strong word.
Less Torched would be a travesty, more Torched may open a rift in the space-time continuum.
Woop woop!
Terrain terrain! Pull up! Pull up!
I’m not sure Torch knows what leveled is.
