The Perfect Ride For Someone With ‘Non-Traditional’ Employment: COTD

Cushmanthekushman

There is something delightful about finding a weird car in a piece of media that isn’t specifically about cars. You just have to wonder if it was intentional or if there was a car person involved. So many questions, so few answers.

Jason presented such a scenario in his Cold Start about Cake’s ‘I Will Survive.’ There were a lot of neat vehicles in the video, including a ton of Cushmans. Jay Vette:

Vidframe Min Top
Vidframe Min Bottom

My weed dealer drives one of those three-wheeled trucks. I’ve been meaning to ask him why.

LTDScott:

Clearly he’s a Kushman.

I must give my sincere apologies to LTDScott, as I accidentally attributed his last COTD win to someone else. Congrats for a second day in a row LTDScott!

Speaking about my last COTD, Christocyclist gave me a great reminder about the difference between ‘fast’ and ‘quick’:

[A] little quibble… growing up reading car magazines, they always made a distinction between “fast” and “quick” in the stats summary table. Fast means top speed and is measured in speed, while quick is about e.g 0-60 and is measured in time. But I do like the additional measure of 0-60 in 100 feet!

I will now go and yell at some clouds…

Dodge

Dodge killed the Hornet, which is sad, but I guess not entirely unexpected. Still, it’s hard to watch the fall of Chrysler’s old brands. V10omous:

The mismanagement and decline of the “traditional” Chrysler brands since 1998 has been extremely sad to see.

Angrycat Meowmeow:

Hey, we’re Dodge!

We got the…

– Car nobody wants
– Old SUV

Stop by your local Dodge dealer today!

Jack Trade:

[V10omous] timeframe is esp jarring, as I’m now recalling just how with it Chrysler was getting in the 90s. A solid line up across the divisions, some serious, game-changing innovation, and they even were making a semi open-wheeled car to sell to everyday buyers!

Have a great evening, everyone!

Why is Stellantis still a thing? It’s gotta be the trucks and a guess Jeep(?) holding them together, right?

As far as the US market goes, you nailed it. Apparently the European brands are not quite the zombie corpses that Chrysler and Dodge are? And Ram still makes money.

Car companies go through ups and downs. I just don’t understand the joy that people, especially automotive enthusiasts, get out of crapping on them when they’re down. It seems to be a particularly American thing, and not just in regards to auto companies either.

What do you mean crapping on them? I was asking a genuine question. Growing up in the 90’s I saw daimlerchrysler products everywhere, just as common if not more common than GM and Ford. I’m genuinely asking as nowadays I don’t see much of anything new around, even late model. I do see some new jeeps and rams but it is about as often as I see low volume enthusiast cars.

I wish someone would start testing top speed achieved from starting start to full stop in 300 feet or 100 meters.

Oh, and obviously the key to COTD is having a double act.

Perhaps I should get an account under my real name.

The 1/8th mile is 201m, I wonder if some of them have speed traps halfway down.

At some events they run 0-100-0 races, the car to do it in the shortest distance wins. That would essentially be the same test as you’re asking for, I think. Tests acceleration and braking.

I just added FSD to my Hindukush Ambassador. Now it stops at every stop sign and waits for it to turn green.

Nicely done, Jay Vette and LTD Scott. Weed jokes NEVER get old.
