Today’s story about the rental car ridiculousness reminded me of a scary bill I once received from, hmm, I want to say Enterprise. Doesn’t matter. Via mail (this was in the late 90s), the company wanted me to pay the toll fees I accumulated over four days in California, which is only fair. What could it cost – ten dollars? Twenty? “See attached.” I saw attached and it was something like $1,200, with all missed tolls listed –covering several months. I highlighted the dates I was actually in California and sent a check for the tolls I missed, some six dollars and change.
… And that’s the short, boring story of how I got off way easier than poor Yuehao Huang, who Avis somehow thought managed to drive 112 mph, 24 hours a day, for a full seven-day week.
Holley That’s a pretty good Cannonball pace! Maybe he’s got a new calling.
StillNotATony Okay, this site has quite a few people on it and working for it. Let’s call this Challenge Accepted. Rent a car from Avis. Take it to a track, and writers and readers can then take shifts driving it as fast as they can, 24 hours a day for, say, a week. If you ain’t driving, you’re resting or on pit crew duty to refuel the car. Let’s see if we can beat that mileage! Who’s with me?!?

Wow, you're reading this? Thanks! If you're into RC cars and I seem vaguely familiar, it's because I spent over 25 years writing and editing RC car news, reviews, and tech articles in print and online. What else, what else ... I have a degree in Film Studies (useless), most of a degree in Graphic Design (useful), and I'm married to a wonderful woman with horrible taste in men. Thanks to her, we have a terrific daughter who just earned her Journalism degree and is way, waaay more together that I was at her age. Or right now.

Matt wrote about Cadillac F1’s very Texas livery and how the graphics team got the cactus details very wrong:
