Sir Roger Moore recognized the ridiculousness of the premises he was in, and played the role as if it was action comedy, and he was fully in on the joke. Which is probably exactly what those scripts called for, sort of a generationally wealthy, bemused playboy stumbling through international intrigue as if it was a hobby to keep himself busy
