Come Hang Out With The Autopian In Ohio And Detroit This Week (Now With David)

Next Meet Ups Ts Copy

Ford just dropped off a new Explorer Tremor that I’m excited to drive to Ohio tomorrow, if only because it’s that new Marsh Grey color that’ll make it look like an unmarked Highway Patrol car. I’m also excited because I’ll get to hang out with my favorite people, you!

Ford wants me to drive a bunch of modified cars at an event being held at Michigan International Speedway in the middle of of the week, so I thought I’d add a couple of meetups to the trip.

My goal tomorrow is to get The Morning Dump done and speed off to Parma, Ohio for a meetup, sneak up to MIS, and then do a Detroit meetup there on Wednesday night. Oh, and David will now be in Detroit and will have a car that’ll fit… maybe all of you?

Here are the details below:

Ohio Meetup On July 21st @ 6:30 PM @ Mission BBQ

Mission Bbq Ohio

    • What: A chance to meet up with me and, more importantly, a bunch of cool fellow Autopians. We’ll grab food at the BBQ place in the parking lot.

    • When: Tuesday, July 21st @ 6:30 PM until everyone gets too tired.

Detroit Meetup On July 22nd @ 6:00 PM @ Troy Walmart

Mich Meetup Large

    • What: A chance to meet up with me and, more importantly, a bunch of cool fellow Autopians. We’ll also order pizza. Also, David will now be there.
    • Where: 2001 W Maple Rd, Troy, MI 48084 in the Walmart parking lot.
    • When: Wednesday, July 22nd at 6:00 PM until everyone gets too tired.

See y’all then!

Had a nice time hanging with Matt & some fellow Autopians in beautiful Parma, Ohio tonight. And if that wasn’t enough, there was BBQ!

Time goes too fast! My project car hasn’t turned over yet and I can’t show up in my mom’s CRV. Hopefully there will be another Michigan meet up next year. Though I’m only a few miles away from MIS if anyone wants to come and swim in our lake.

Or get my car to run….

Who says you can’t show up in a CRV?

Looks like about an hour and a half drive for me to Troy, so not bad at all. And I get to take Exit 69 for Big Beaver Road. I’m trying not to be immature about it.

I worked for 5 years off of that Exit.

I stayed immature.

I’m pumped! I do need an excuse to drive 13 readers around in this van I’m getting. What could that excuse be? Hmm…

You’re taking a select group of readers on a pilgrimage to the original Tracy Haus in Troy!

Damn, you’re in my area but this is my late night at work during the week. Keep coming to Ohio, I’ll keep trying to schedule it in!

Dang it. I was just in Ohio on Sunday. Similar to Florida, I can only stomach Ohio in small doses, so I’ll have to sit this one out.

While I’d love to be there to see what David’s driving that would fit so many people, the timing is a little over a week too early for me. I’ll be in lower Michigan and northern Indiana next Friday through Sunday for Elcofest.

I would have loved to show up at an Autopian meet-up in my El Camino!

Any meetups planned in Detroit for the Woodward Dream Cruise?

Because it usually happens at the same time as pebble beach and some higher staff think they are celebrities, even though they have restraining orders asking them not to be within 50 ft of b and c list celebrities Dream cruise is always a second thought. Though Nick usually does an excellent job of covering it.

The Detroit group will likely do something the week of the Cruise, just not an official event like this one. I know there’s been something the past 2 years at least.

Detroit sounds like a fun place, mostly because large swathes of it look like a scene from a post-apocalyptic film. #bikelife is big there too!

My kind of city.

I haven’t, but I’ve always wanted to check it out. My city is also a shithole par excellence, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

You haven’t been the same since that semi ran over you.
Detroit ain’t like that anymore.
We’re all good up in here.

When I moved there in 2013, certain areas definitely looked post-apocalyptic. The recession and bankruptcies had done more damage to an already damaged town. It was truly like no place I’ve ever seen before or since.

I used to bike to abandoned factories (second to Packard, my favorite was the Continental Engine Plant right next to Chrysler’s Jefferson North Assembly Plant) and spend hours walking around, looking at things that, in retrospect, were truly, truly amazing.

It’s a shame that so much of that city’s late 19th/early 20th century architecture has been torn down over the decades.

If you have anything that’s conventional-bicycle shaped you should take it on the Amtrak!

I do have an electric motorcycle disguised as an unmotorized mountainbike, but I’m not sure the battery is allowable on an Amtrak. I spotwelded the battery together myself.
