Most of The Autopian‘s writers have a habit of sliding pop culture references into their work. I drop Star Trek and Pitch Meeting references into my pieces. Thomas makes references so deep I have no idea what he’s talking about half the time. Sometimes, we just accidentally make the references, too!
The Bishop wrote about how he’d upgrade the Slate into a discount Land Rover, and unintentionally made a music reference. Arch Duke Maxyenko:
Calling it the “Speakerboxx” and not calling the rear seat climate controls “The Love Below”.
The reference is the name of an Outkast album!

And what the hell is up with that gray, funereal-seeming photo there? Those grayscale sculptures in that grassy field and the cement-gray car all add up to a sort of necropolitan kind of look that I don’t really understand in this context? What are they going for here?
For anyone who knows the Doctor Who episode “Blink,” that photo is terrifying.
