Do You Have A Car As Your Computer Wallpaper Or Phone Lock Screen?

Notebook. Vector. Realistic Isolated Model Vector Stock.

My answer to today’s Ask is “No, I do not.” I’ve never really gone in for wallpapers and the like, though I’m not against them. I just like my screens’ default look to be some kind of blank canvas. I currently have whatever abstraction comes as default with the iMac, and when I used to be on PCs, I just replaced the provided garbage with woodgrain or some other innocuous pattern.

… but I gotta say, that synthwave Countach in the topshot is dope. Maybe I should make that my wallpaper! So rad. The design as well as the laptop vector I stuck it into are from DepositPhotos.com, many thanks to them.

Today’s Ask was suggested by Mercedes, who dropped these examples:

Merc Screens

Says Merc:

My present computer wallpaper is Volkswagen’s publicity stunt to advertise the Touareg V10 TDI. My usual picks for desktop backgrounds are dream cars, dream planes, and dream bridges. In this case, I have a dream car and dream plane in the same shot! The icons on my desktop are hints to future articles that I want to write. Some are also just part numbers and notes for things I’ve fixed on my Stella, Rover, and Smarts.

My phone backgrounds tend to be pictures of my own vehicles or pictures of planes or trains that I have seen out in the wild. My lockscreen, which isn’t pictured, is always an image of my wife.

Ah yes, the Dream Bridge, a classic wallpaper choice.

Your turn!

Sorta?

My desktop is a pic of my daughter at the main building of her uni in England. But my screen saver is a slideshow of various vacation pics, one of which is her sitting in a bronze statue of a Model T in Fort William, Scotland.

I have the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E at warp at about a 45 degree angle shot from the underside as my desktop background. A shocking revelation I am sure.

Lock screen on my phone has been a ground level picture of the Garage 56 Nascar among all of the prototypes at the 2023 Le Mans grid photo since roughly mid 2023. My phone background is my cat.

Nope. I used to do car pictures, but switched to nature pictures (mostly of various mountains and lakes) years ago because sometimes I just need to look at something relaxing – especially when I feel my inner Milton coming through at work.

Heh, I use the “This is fine” background image for Teams meetings. It reflects both the usual shituation at work AND my intrusive thoughts. 😉

I used to keep a dumpster fire collectible on my desk, until I took a principal role and realized it didn’t send the best message to the junior engineers. Now I just use my words to express how I feel about the self-inflicted disasters my coworkers pull me into (with a justified look of terror on their faces).

Currently a detail shot of the grill & headlights on a 1965 Continental. I change it regularly from around 1800 images I’ve collected.

Most beautiful F1 car ever.

Chassis 104 was at the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca one year, and I was looking at it with my brother-in-law and noticed that it had no safety harness in it and we were talking about that. just then a voice from above and behind us said that a safety harness would be too dangerous and then explained that with a magnesium body and a fuel tank that pretty much took up everything except for the cockpit in front of the firewall and tires with the side walls higher than the ground clearance, a tire blowout would pretty much guarantee that the car would instantly become a fireball. We turned around and it was Mr. Guerney himself. He went on to explain that the last place he wanted to be in an accident was actually in the car hence no safety harness.

I switch my laptop from my favorite pic of my TR6 to a small waterfall pic I took after a series of heavy rainfalls, both taken on my property.

I have some with top down, and some with the hardtop on, which totally changes the look. Both in the same location. I plan on bringing it to the car show in North Carolina.

My PC wallpaper at home is a photo of a Lotus 26R, but that’s it….the work computer is Aardvreck Castle in Scotland, and I’m lazy with my phone – just whatever came on it from the factory.

My work PC has a pic of my exact “toy” car on a desolate western back road. Someday I’ll find that spot and take a pic of my car.

My desktop background is a Mazda3 hatchback in Polymetal Gray, just like my daily. It’s one of those moody, promotional shots from Mazda that’s got a dimly lit, mostly dark gray background, so the bluish hue of the car really pops.

I gravitate towards dark backgrounds so I can pick out my icons better. Bright, busy images on the desktop just don’t work for me.

Look Peter, I didn’t wake up this morning expecting to be called out like this.

Can I at least grab a coffee before we start such interrogations?

Personal – no. Both are pictures I’ve taken in national parks.

At work it rotates through whatever vehicle we recently launched or are working on.

For some reason I picture your work being literally launching cars airborne, then repairing them afterwards.

I have a rotating cast of a several hundred I switch around. I have a collection of 20’s and 30’s classics. Same in French, German, UK, Asian and Italian covering from 10’s through today. Also have a mixed bag of cars by country not in the above sets. There is also a large collection of bikes from over the century, classics, rare and obscure, sports and racing. I have a python script switch collections out on a random basis. Keeps it fresh. Might add trucks one of these days, maybe planes and trains. Mercedes is a transportation influencer! No RV though.
