My answer to today’s Ask is “No, I do not.” I’ve never really gone in for wallpapers and the like, though I’m not against them. I just like my screens’ default look to be some kind of blank canvas. I currently have whatever abstraction comes as default with the iMac, and when I used to be on PCs, I just replaced the provided garbage with woodgrain or some other innocuous pattern.
… but I gotta say, that synthwave Countach in the topshot is dope. Maybe I should make that my wallpaper! So rad. The design as well as the laptop vector I stuck it into are from DepositPhotos.com, many thanks to them.
Today’s Ask was suggested by Mercedes, who dropped these examples:

Says Merc:
My present computer wallpaper is Volkswagen’s publicity stunt to advertise the Touareg V10 TDI. My usual picks for desktop backgrounds are dream cars, dream planes, and dream bridges. In this case, I have a dream car and dream plane in the same shot! The icons on my desktop are hints to future articles that I want to write. Some are also just part numbers and notes for things I’ve fixed on my Stella, Rover, and Smarts.
My phone backgrounds tend to be pictures of my own vehicles or pictures of planes or trains that I have seen out in the wild. My lockscreen, which isn’t pictured, is always an image of my wife.
Ah yes, the Dream Bridge, a classic wallpaper choice.
Your turn!
Do You Have A Car As Your Computer Wallpaper Or Phone Lock Screen?

When I had Blackberry smartphones (RIP BB, I still miss those phones) for the lockscreen/wallpaper I used a still from the 1979 film Lupin III: the Castle of Cagliostro (one of Hayao Miyazaki’s first directorial efforts) with Lupin’s 1965 Fiat 500

which was a great combo of a lovely alpine mountain lake setting, a seriously cool car, and iconic characters (Lupin & Jigen.)
After my last Blackberry finally gave up the ghost and BB was no longer around I switched to different brands whereupon my kids downloaded a close-up photo they had taken of our late and beloved cat as the wallpaper and I’ve stayed with that ever since.
The comments about the Fiat & other cars in that film on imcdb are well worth reading especially with the surprising number of gearheads among the animators (like with Miyazaki choosing a Citroën 2CV for one of the characters because he himself had one.)
My dogs are my desktop background. Standard phone background.
The last car background I had was a Bizzarini 5300GT. I wouldn’t use my own cars. That’s just a reminder of project and maintenance.
My iPad lock screen is a picture I took of an old Cadillac. I can’t work out how to link to the Flickr page, but you should just believe me when I say that it’s awesome.
Amazingly, no.
For many years my computer wallpaper was a 1971 Mustang Sportback. About 18 months ago I got a new iMac and just wasn’t motivated to repeat. As for my phones, whatever’s there is there.
Nope – basic black on all my screens.
My phone lock screen is eerily simliar to the top shot, but with a cell-shaded image of my S12 in place of the Lambo. Great taste.
My laptop uses another graphic featuring the same car, this one a variant of the “Allow Popups” graphic that’s been floating around for years.
Still have an S12? Nice! I had three of them. My intro to Japanese cars.
Nope, phone is all pics of the dog all the time and the computers are all blank black. Used to always have a photo of some sort for work, frequently of cars, but haven’t in years. Not sure why.
I’ve been raiding the Porsche press website (press.porsche.com) for my laptops for years… work and personal laptop… but pet pics rule my phone 🙂
20 years ago I had the perfect shade of blue/gray from NeXT, but at some point I got tired of minimalism…
of course there are so many windows open I rarely can see the desktop!
and the laptop wallpapers rotate every hour and are different across 10+ virtual desktops
I had The General Lee as my phone and pc wallpaper for years, generic now.
I keep cars as my background at my work computer. My daughter is the background for everything else
My phone screen is either my WRX or Slave 1 from Star Wars.
My wallpaper is an in-period photograph of what is likely a promotional shot of a lovely woman standing next to a SAAB 95 (not 9-5). I found it at random many years ago and it’s been my desktop ever since. I like the smartly-dressed woman and I also like the 95.
My phone lock screen is definitely not an AI generation of David Tracy presenting a bouquet of flowers to a Ford Bronco Sport with the caption, “Best Jeep Evah!” under it.
Nope. Not at all.
I haven’t in decades? Always landscape water and boats. I have a laptop I use for vehicle interface I let a buddy borrow and it came back with a picture of his C6 in front of another buddies Tesla Model 3 on a track .
Current phone is Samsung stock image. I haven’t gotten around to picking a background! My last phone had a pic of my project truck. My tablet is a screen shot from a racing game featuring a (somewhat) close approximation of what I want my Thunderbird to eventually look like. The work computer is a slideshow of TWA Lockheed Constellations. My home PC hasn’t been used in years. It’s current wallpaper is probably some Windows error screen.
My phone wallpaper is my E46 rally car at our first event, in the twilight, with the full light bars. Still warms my heart to see it.
I can’t post the exact one right now, but my current background is a pic from this year’s Road America trip where my Caddy is parked next to my daughter’s blue C4 outside of the Corvette Corral. It’s pretty-much always a car pic of some sort.

In my wallpaper rotation I’ve got a picture of the original Hoonicorn–the one with the hood scoop floating on the velocity stacks. I always though that was a really cool detail and was disappointed when they swapped it for turbos.
Between devices I use Ferrari F1 cars and Toyota WEC Hypercars. Honorable mention is the BMW Z3 GT3
Decades ago – when I was younger and was on my first computers, I would download wallpapers from different auto manufacturers.
But nowaways?
I use scenic photos of various Caribbean islands I have visited – because I need more calm these days.
Kind of, but the car isn’t the point of the picture. Posted here on the Autopian discord for the 1-2 days it keeps images:

Cats not cars.
Same! Two fine cats (one for phone lock screen, one for work PC wallpaper/background), no longer with us, but loved and missed. And my work Slack icon is also a cat.
My old BRZ is still the wallpaper inside my gmail.
My work computer has the display settings locked down so I don’t have much choice there. My old laptop had a beautiful shot of an NC Miata that looked just like the one in my garage, but I never bothered to move that to my new Surface. That might become a project for some weekend this fall.
