Startup companies are a fascinating part of car culture as they offer a window into what could be. Many startup ventures fizzle out after producing nothing but renders and press releases, some actually make reach production. It’s getting harder to sift what’s real from the vaporware, and our readers aren’t having it.
The Bishop wrote about how the CEO of REO reacted to his ideas. Dave Stote:
Stay with me now….what if you could only buy an REO at………REI?
Sklooner:
I was expecting a restraining order.
Elhigh:
The Fuddtrucker: Step up to the counter and order your truck.
No. No options except color.
Got your truck? Cool. Now take it to the Options Bar. Load it or don’t. Each one has its own cost and installation for most of them is up to you. Lefty-loosey, righty-tighty. You got this. Electronic bits just plug in, and the plug is already there; load it or don’t.
Find some room in the budget a few years down the road, come on back. You can upgrade the stereo, replace the regular cruise control with adaptive, swap in the better engine management computer – two plugs, two bolts, five minutes. Or just keep using the one you’ve got; it gets the job done. Except in California, the new one meets requirements, and the old one doesn’t. Don’t look at us, we didn’t make that rule. We like the old one fine. It adds lean burn capability, which can shorten the life of the catalytic converter, but again – it ain’t up to us.
New seats? No problem. You can trade yours if they aren’t damaged; we sell to folks repairing their rigs after a crash. It’s like a used bookstore and the rig is the shopping bag you picked up at the door: load it or don’t.

Jason wrote about another startup that wants to make a new VW Vanagon. Jesus Chrysler drives a Dodge:
Looks like that dash will be conjecture molded.
Aaronaut:
It also features a vapor-based frame, notional body panels, a theoretical drivetrain, and a made-up price!

Jason wrote about a cop car that mysteriously crashed into a guardrail before being crashed into by an ambulance. Sid Bridge:
That guardrail shouldn’t have resisted.

David wrote about the Scrambler Concept. Nathan Gibbs:
As with most SEMA builds, you might say they scrambled to put it together.
Rod Millington:
Only once they had wrangled the details.
1978fiatspyderfan:
You guys are certainly taking Liberties with this one.
Have a great evening, everyone!

What’s the automotive, non-religious equivalent of “God” for us atheist Autopians?* I would ask that they/them/none bless Aaronaut for getting a snort out of me for the body panels built out of solid imaginarium, with copium fibers to reinforce them.
*Gourd” comes to mind like “Pumpkin” like “differential,” but that seems a little too deep a cut for such generic usage as a stand-in for Judeo-Christian monotheistic aphorisms.
The 10mm socket gremlin?
