David Tracy used to be famous for his near-superhuman ability to brave icy Detroit winters to bring some pile of rust back to life. Now he’s a clean, renewed David living in sunny southern California. It’s a place where rust doesn’t thrive, but don’t worry, things still find a way to fall apart around David.
Today, David wrote about how carbon fiber reinforced plastic panels can oxidize, peel, and disintegrate. So, technically, even David’s high-tech BMW i3 can give him a little taste of what Detroit was like. NC Miata NA:

From cars that fall apart due to oxidizing metal to cars that fall apart from oxidizing plastic: DT sure does have a type.
Earlier today, Jason wrote about the homebuilt wooden car found by contributor Emily. This thing is charming and whimsical, and so were the comments. Boulevard_Yachtsman:
This really begs the following question:
How much wood could a wood truck chuck if a wood truck could chuck wood?
John Gallup:
“sliced tree meet” is the only term I’ll ever use for plywood henceforth. But what are we going to call MDF—masticated tree meat?
Hoonicus:
Bologna
Hangover Grenade:
It’s clearly Sequoia based.
Canopysaurus:
Hey, look at that, a Plyber Truck.
Yesterday, Matt wrote about the Songsan Motors Full Good Rocket, a plug-in hybrid that resembled a ’50s Cadillac. I love the reference made by Chewcudda:
I’ll wait for the self-driving tribute to the 1958 Plymouth.
Have a great evening, everyone!
I was just thinking “COTD inclusion sure wood be cool this morning.”
Thanks Mercedes!
In Douglas Adams’ So Long and Thanks for All the Fish (the fourth book of a five-part trilogy) a long haul lorry driver, Rob McKenna, complained he was constantly followed by rain. He was unaware he was the Rain God. I suggest DT doesn’t know he’s the God of Oxidation.
WOW, 2 of 3 comments are referencing an obscure plot point from Hitchhiker’s Guide. I feel … home.
We’re all just ugly bags of mostly scifi references.
Eh, it’s mostly harmless fun.
Glob, how trooo! 😉
hahahaha, this sent me over the edge
David is like the rain god from Hitchhiker’s Guide, but for rust. It just loves him and wants to be near him.
I’m still waiting for Jason’s overdue review of the Ford Prefect.
Actually it was supposed to be the Ford Perfect but well you know Ford
What, the dominant life form of this planet?
