Wow, you're reading this? Thanks! If you're into RC cars and I seem vaguely familiar, it's because I spent over 25 years writing and editing RC car news, reviews, and tech articles in print and online. What else, what else ... I have a degree in Film Studies (useless), most of a degree in Graphic Design (useful), and I'm married to a wonderful woman with horrible taste in men. Thanks to her, we have a terrific daughter who just earned her Journalism degree and is way, waaay more together that I was at her age. Or right now.

I’ve done home inspections for rescues. I haven’t been to Mercedes apartment so I can’t say for sure what I would say, but nothing mentioned would be a disqualifier, and generally we do go in beyond the front door. If I see something that might be questionable, I uh, ask questions. I’ve even told people that in order to meet the rescue’s standard they would need to be sure to do x. Fix a hole in a fence for example.
That said, I’ve also run into a weirdly high number of toxic personalities in rescue work. It sucks that she had to run into one.

What an asshat!!! I’m outraged at the way that ‘inspector’ treated you and your wife, Mercedes. He clearly doesn’t give a damn about animals…what a miserable person.
Mercedes this just makes me want to cry, I’m so sorry, you have such a big heart, I know it takes a lot to still hold your head high and be happy for Naomi
Mercedes, that’s utterly messed up, and it’s even more messed up that they won’t even properly communicate with you about it. I understand they want to do right by the dogs but in pulling crap like this they miss out on so many loving homes.
Mercedes… im absolutely infuriated about that inspector. I don’t understand why these idiots do that. You would have made an excellent mom to Naomi. I hope you get a better answer than bullshit excuses and I hope that the organization is made aware of his actions.
First off, Mercedes, I’m really sorry and sad about you not getting cute Naomi.
My only experience that fits the category on hand was when I bought a used Peugeot 504 that it turns out had retreaded tires. One blew out about 10 miles from home a few months down the road. I pulled over and put the very aged spare on, and it blew out about two miles further down the road.
I got to a tire store (I don’t remember exactly how) and bought a set of brand new Michelins and never had a tire event afterwards.
People like that inspector are the reasons so many people prefer animals to their own kind.
I’m sorry Mercedes, people are assholes.
Wild….Can I adopt the dog then just give it to you, Mercedes?
SWG: Wouldn’t you like to magically go back to the brake mangler and tell him what you think of his work and worthiness as a human being?
Mercedes: I would magically like to tell that inspector how I feel about their worthiness as a human being. Son of a bitch! I need to throw something right now. Exhale.
I’m not a fan of shoddy work, but I’m also not a fan of negativity – there’s enough of that in the world.
I wouldn’t let that dude touch one of my cars, but I also choose to focus on positivity and upon the things that I can affect; the Lincoln is fixed and has great stopping power now!
Karmic Fact: The “Brake Mangler” was a neighbor of ours whose house burned down 2 years ago due to a grilling-while-stoned incident. Nobody was hurt, but he is no longer mangling brakes on our block.
Thanks for reading and cheers, Dodsworth!
I wasn’t planning to be angry when opening this page but after seeing how Mercedes was treated, I sure am now.
My sister was involved in greyhound rescue and, although she wasn’t part of the inspection/approval side of things, nonetheless she was aware of the problem with inspectors who recommended the rejection of applicants for inappropriate reasons. The organization wasn’t at all happy with this behavior but some of the inspectors did a better job of covering their tracks than others, making it harder to pin down what was happening until after a lot of damage had been done.
Mercedes, I am sorry this happened.
