We Finally Figured Out What Happened Between April And June: COTD

Starpole

Back in June, the American government effectively banned Polestar from selling vehicles in America. The rule used, which dates back to the Biden Administration, prohibits the sale of any connected vehicle from a manufacturer that has ownership or control ties to China or Russia. Despite the fact that both Volvo and Polestar sell connected vehicles and have Chinese ownership, only Polestar got the banhammer.

Matt wrote in a Morning Dump about how, in April, Polestar was allegedly told that if Volvo were approved to keep selling cars in America, Polestar would be, too. Then June rolled around. What happened between April and June? Drew is on the case:

I can answer this one. May.

This totally random comment made me chuckle. Slappy Feinstein:

I keep seeing the VW worker as Steve Carrell dressed like a minion.

Just look at the image:

Jason wrote about how the CEO of BMW Australia apparently wants to see BMW double down on touchscreen controls. Tondeleo Jones:

I recall a Volkswagen official some years ago that pushed back on American’s desire for cup holders. The story went something like “people need to pay attention to driving.”

Andy Individual:

That’s why cup holders are important. You don’t always have someone else in the car to say “here, hold my beer, watch this” to.

Jason wrote an Exhaust Leaks about a strange interaction he had at Pebble Beach involving touching cars. I love Al Lenz’s take here:

I show my Grandfather’s 1930 Model A Sport Coupe that I restored many years ago from time to time and I love to show kids how to get in and out of the rumble seat. I’ll let Mom and dad sit up front and take a family photo for them if they want. I enjoy doing this and if it means repainting the fender every now and then so be it.

Craigslist Seller

Mark gave us a showdown between two extremely ratty Toyotas, including a 1998 Lexus LS 400 that looks like it got rocked by a hurricane. Cloud Shouter brings chaos:

I’d drive that Lexus to the snootiest valet at the snootiest restaurant, toss them the keys while saying, “Park it somewhere safe this time. All this happened the last time I ate here.”

Finally, Jason wrote an obituary for Dolly Parton. 04 Poor:

Honestly, this site is probably the last place I would’ve ever expected to find out, but I don’t think the car angle here is that much of a stretch as I managed to learn something new.

Either way, I think she was an embodiment of the true America, what’s good about the country rather than what isn’t, more representative of the silent (and sadly somewhat powerless) majority. Can’t say the same about too many other celebs. May she rest in peace.

Have a great evening, everyone. Be safe out there!
