It’s Hard Not To Love A Good Fender: COTD

Fenderford

One of the greatest parts about being a car enthusiast is learning what makes someone’s heart skip. I’m a sucker for stupid engines, weird engineering, RGB lighting, and brightly-colored interiors that you could never sweat on or get dirty. Apparently, some of you like buttresses and fenders.

David wrote about the Ford GT Competition in Beau’s collection. Nsane In The MembraNe describes one of the reasons why Beau is so cool:

Vidframe Min Top
Vidframe Min Bottom

While I am certainly not, and never will be, in Beau’s position, my logic with stuff like this is very practical. I do collect guitars, and very nice ones at that…but for someone who’s as passionate as I am my collection is comparatively small. If I buy something and don’t play it often, then it needs to go. I personally would rather the instrument be used to make music in someone else’s hands than sit in its case in my basement.

I think this applies to cars as well…and to Beau’s credit, unlike a lot of folks in his fortunate position, he does drive these vehicles as god intended. Between that and creating this website solely out of a love for the game, he’s A Real One. It’s not like these machines are being mothballed, and I appreciate that we get articles on them.

But if I were him, I’d sell the stuff that I don’t have the time or desire to drive. Would something like this have high odds of being mothballed by some weird billionaire? Probably, but there’s also a chance that the new owner will take it out on the track where it belongs. I’d take those admittedly slight odds over the certainty that it would more or less just sit if it was in my possession.

But what do I know? I don’t have an expansive car collection. I have a Hyundai…lol.

Zeppelopod:

It strikes me that you and Beau do have some commonality, in that both of your heads will be turned by a nice fender.

I actually agree with MATTinMKE here:

“most beautiful rear end in automotive history”

This is where you lost me. There are legit beautiful cars out there. The Bugatti Atlantic comes to mind. This car is very cool, but not beautiful.

David is a man of his word:

I stand by it. From the rear, the GT is the King. It’s an enginerd’s dream.

Limerockian:

I like big buttresses.

Matt wrote a Morning Dump that contained a story about the Mercedes-Benz CEO admitting that automakers went too far in killing buttons. I admit, I like Minivanlife’s bad idea a little too much:

Instead of conventionally shaped buttons, can they be RGB backlit three-pointed stars?

Okay, I wouldn’t want the buttons to be logos, but I would absolutely buy a car with RGB buttons. I’ll even accept capacitive buttons if they were RGB. I know, it’s terrible.

Anyway, Data:

My God, it’s full of stars.

My Other Car is a Tetanus Shot:

Please refrain from touching the monolith.

Littlebag:

Now that you said not to, it kind of makes me want to touch it more.

My Other Car is a Tetanus Shot:

I’m not giving you a bone to play with afterwards if you do.

Littlebag:

Your bone, I can refrain from touching.

Have a great evening, everyone!
