It’s fair to say that, in general, the Ferrari Luce was not entirely as well-received by the general public as Maranello was hoping. From The Autopian’s reader comments to the wider Internet, it became the mobile Apple Magic Mouse that was wholly okay to hate on.
Now, it’s suffered an even greater ignominy: appearing in a driving game courtesy of some wag slapping stickers onto a Toyota Prius, only for the ersatz Luce to actually somehow look better than the real thing.
Let me show you what I mean:

The game in question is Forza Horizon 6, the latest and quite recently launched entry in the ridiculously successful Forza Horizon series that places players into an open-world environment with a sandbox of several hundred cars.
Every title in the Horizon oeuvre has been set in a different location around the world, with a fictionalized map based on the greatest hits of the region shrunk down to fit into an Xbox console’s memory and reworked to make for fun and chaotic races on the public road (and the landscape between bits of road).
Following on from Colorado, Australia’s Gold Coast, the Riviera, the United Kingdom, and Mexico, FH6 takes place in a fictionalized version of Japan, after pretty much a decade of players yelling for exactly that. It launched only back in May, blowing past a million players before it was even properly released (due to pre-order early access) and ten million within its first month.
Not only is it well on its way to beating its predecessor’s record, but it’ll also launch on PlayStation 5 later this year and allow Sony-only players to join in the “Horizon Festival” while the game’s still relatively young.
Horizon titles have never been short of Ferraris, with around 40 models in the current game from the classic 1957 California up to the F80 — although with several of those being behind one of various Downloadable Content (DLC) packs, it depends how much you pay as to how many you’ll find on your own console.
The Luce isn’t among them, or at least it isn’t yet, but that hasn’t stopped creative players from making their own with the tools they have available: the game’s livery editor.
This is a relatively standard feature in many racing games these days, with Forza Horizon’s version only allowing you to construct your own “vinyl groups” in the game from existing shapes. However, prolific creators can get quite inventive even with this limitation.
For the Luce recreations, players are using the Toyota Prius Prime XSE, bizarrely classed as a “hot hatch,” which itself only became available on Thursday as part of the drip-fed $30, 30-car Car Pass DLC add-on — explaining why it’s taken until now for the Temu Luce to appear.
Black decals over key spots of the Prius and a cavallino rampante badge make for a pretty effective and arguably superior-looking homage to the Luce. Just don’t look at the back end.
Just to rub salt into this particular wound, the current monthly theme for Forza Horizon 6 is “Italian Exotics,” and players who’ve been stickering up their Priuses in this fashion (or downloading them for use) have been taking advantage of that.
One spot in the game has been dressed up as an Italian Exotics showroom for the month, stocking rare Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, and Paganis, and the Luce crew have been trolling players by parking up in that exact location…

While Joe Q. Public is generally not a fan, the actual buyers might be a different matter: Ferrari has sold its entire allocation of it, and everything else, through 2027. To the surprise of nobody.

I hope there’s a “prancing Sika deer” emblem in there to level up the trolling. Then everyone can swap the actual Ferrari emblem and no legal issues because it’s parody. Ferrari wouldn’t enjoy the joke, as usual.
My friend and I visited Ferrari Museum in Maranello earlier this month. We saw a couple of pre-production Luce during the factory tour. Several visitors in the tour bus blurted out lot of unholy words when seeing the Luce out in the wild. So much that the tour guide interrupted his bloviation and ordered the bus operator to drive to the next building.
If you are planning to visit Ferrari Museum in Maranello, please for the love of Ferrari God, don’t book the factory tour! A massive rip-off! The visitors are shuttled from one building to other while the tour guide droned on and on about the “significance” of this and that buildings. So boring that a few visitors dozed off and missed lot of “significant” buildings. We didn’t get to see the production lines and such as we would during Mercedes-Benz and BMW factory tours.

Still worth going to the museum?
Yes, if you don’t expect to see lot of historical vehicles from 1950s to 1960s. Some of them are at Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena. If you are going there, there are two exhibitions: one in grand hall (yellow building) that is sort of disappointing and other in the old building that focuses on Enzo Ferrari. The entrance in the old building isn’t well-marked so ask the staff to point it out.
We wanted to do the factory tour at Lamborghini, but it was booked up weeks in advance. The museum has smaller exhibition unless you book for the museum tour that takes you to different building.
Overall, the best is Pagani because you can actually walk through the production line and watch technicians assembling the cars.
Exhibits change, so you can’t judge a museum on one specific visit. We were there in March and caught The Greatest Hits, which had several of the greats owned by musicians, composers, and conductors from the ’60s on up. I was pretty happy with it.
I’d already been warned about the factory tour – supposedly the Lamborghini one is far better.
We only ended up seeing the Ferrari museum in Modena so that wasn’t an issue. Next time I might try to swing the Pagani or Maserati factor tour.
Can they put Clippy behind the wheel? Stay with the hated tech theme?
The Toyota still doesn’t pass the “One Of These Things Is Different From The Others” test but it also doesn’t look like it’s photo bombing the shot.
I’m on PS5 so can’t play this until later this year – but I always appreciate FH for the depth of customization possible.
Given how good Toyota’s GR products have been, I’d love to give this Prius the AWD GR swap it deserves.

I own a whole fleet of Toyotas, daughter bought a used (ugly ass) Gen 4 Prius this spring. That ugly as sin car gets her 60mpg. She is over the moon happy with it.

I have all cars paid for, but if had to cut back to one single new car it would likely be a Prius or a Crown Signia. My daily is a Toyota hybrid and I’ve been sold.
The Crown Signia is on of the most overlooked cars out there. Might be my next vehicle.
The Signia reminds me of the 1st gen Venza, really it’s a lux lifted station wagon. At this empty nest stage of life it about fits perfectly. The hybrid drivetrain seals the deal.
The ’14 Camry Hybrid and ’13 Highlander I regularly use are PAID FOR though. And it’s about time to replace the ’07 Corolla she drives daily.
Realistically we could just have a Signia and a Corolla or Corolla Cross.

They don’t even need to have bad taste. With Ferrari’s sales model, it’s easy to find several multimillionaires who want to stay in good standing with the company so they’ll be allowed to buy the next car that people do actually want.

The 2026 allocation was 500 and it sold out in 2 months. The majority going to China. The allocation for 2027, 28, 29 and 30 is 600 per year.

They do this a lot. Microsoft and turn10 are American. You end up with a lot of USDM stuff. Most egregious examples are the USDM Integra Type R/RSX instead of the JDM ones, and the 240SX instead of the 180.

Plus those wheels are from classic Ferraris (think 328). Something with thinner spokes would go a long way to balancing the modern look.
I thought the same thing, so on the version I quickly knocked up for the article I put a set of five-spoke Gram Lights T57-RC to be a bit closer to the duck egg blue launch car.

I’d eventually like to do my actual car up in the livery it wears in GT7, but I’d either need to wrap it every few years or come up with a white Pennzoil livery for it. We do weekly time trials in my other automotive Discord and I run Mazda as my manufacturer and snagged Pennzoil for the main sponsor since I’ve always run it anyway.

It works, the current gen Prius is quite decent looking. Better then what ever drugs Ferrari is on. Prius reached a low point with the previous gen what a strange looking thing. They are cheap enough. I’ve seen some that appear to have been bought from buy her pay here. So real world version might exist if now it will soon.

This is one of those cases where we write the headline based on the image/tweet (which is very obviously Forza) but the topshot is maybe too good? Or maybe Forza has just gotten so good it’s not as obvious. Either way, added “Forza Horizon 6” to the headline just so it’s really clear.
